The Handloom School

The Handloom School An educational program for the youth, can be instrumental in solving most of the issues of Handloom.

As global economies grow and people become more interconnected, there is an increasing demand for new 21st century skills, for integrating diverse knowledge, and for developing the capacity to be creative, innovative and entrepreneurial. Young weavers have a great need for specialized education that bridges the gap between traditional skills and new competencies. Our plan is to implement a model o

f learning that is global, scalable and designed specifically for handloom students. In this way, entrepreneurial education becomes a catalyst for change. By fostering a new generation of young artisans and developing their ability to operate in the global market, we will not only preserve and transform the art of handloom but also empower weaving communities to improve and sustain their future and livelihood.

Batch Introduction : Sunita Sethana

Sunita comes from Mandleshwar, a town around 20 kms from Maheshwar everyday. She used to do stitching before joining The Handloom School to learn weaving.
She says she enjoys weaving more than stitching. She also says that the most challenging part about learning to weave is keeping patience with the yarns. Keeping in mind the philosophy of 'one step at a time', she has finally learnt to weave.

Batch Introduction : Sonu Mandloi

Sonu is a single mother of three children who is single-handedly supporting her family and ensuring her children receive an education. To provide for them, she has worked as an agricultural labourer and a construction worker, taking on physically demanding jobs with uncertain incomes. Seeking a more stable and sustainable livelihood, Sonu joined the CSTU program. She hopes to master the craft, set up a loom at home, and earn a reliable income that will enable her to support her family while working from home.

Weaving represents not just a skill for Sonu, but an opportunity to build a secure future for herself and her children.

As the batch proceeds, the first thing that the women learn here is HANDSPINNING, taking their initital steps in the world of textiles and handloom traditions.

For most of them, this was their first experience working with fibre and understanding how yarn is created by hand. Through practice and guided learning, they start to develop foundational skills.
