The KAUST Photonics Summer Camp (PSC) is a sponsored research program from 4 weeks to 4 months. It comprises a core of hands-on, cutting-edge research projects in various areas of modern photonics, accompanied by workshops and technical training in using state-of-the-art nanofabrication and imaging facilities.

It offers undergraduates and Master’s students from across the globe the opportunity to participate in a research project in contemporary areas of photonics, such as semiconductor lasers, photonic integrated circuits, quantum technologies, optical communications, neuromorphic computing, and hyper-vision systems.

The camp allows participants to acquire hands-on experience in lab experiments, obtain knowledge certification on state-of-the-art nanofabrication tools, attend workshops with students and entrepreneurs, and participate in exciting field trips.

Government launches Quad scholarship program for techies

India has launched a new program to offer fifty Quad scholarships, worth $500,000, for students from the Indo-Pacific region. These scholarships will help students pursue a four-year undergraduate engineering degree at a Government of India-funded technical institution. This initiative shows India’s commitment to building strong relationships with its partners and developing future leaders in science and technology.

The Quad, which includes India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has been working to improve cooperation among its member countries. Late Date for Online Application to Summer Internships Program: April 06, 2024.

IIT Palakkad has a summer internship program which aims at introducing undergraduate and postgraduate students to research so as to enthuse them, and to get them interested in a career in teaching and research. This is a six-weeks long residential program and it combines hands-on research training with a variety of hardware and software analysis tools.

Eligibility
Science, Engineering and Humanities: The programme is open to postgraduate students (including 4th and 5th year students of integrated master’s programs) and those who are in the 3rd and 4th year of their B.Tech degree).

Please note the following:

Only those who satisfactorily complete the programme will be given the internship certificate.
Financial support of Rs. 8000/- per month (Rs. 12000/- for the entire period) will be provided to all the selected candidates.
Accommodation on a shared basis is available on campus. Hostel room rent along with mess food charges should be paid by the intern students.
Students from IIT Palakkad are not eligible to apply for summer interships program of the institute.

WISE-SCOPE Fellowship Program 2024 by DST - Opportunity for Women Scientists & Technologists

WISE-SCOPE Fellowship Program 2024 of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) aims to provide opportunities to women Scientists and Technologists who have completed P.hD and want to utilize their S and T knowledge and expertise for the benefit of society. This program promotes projects that directly deal with challenges at the grassroots level and addresses them through S and T inventions. Projects under WISE-SCOPE (WISE-Socetialchalleneges and Opportunities) should provide S &and T solutions to our social problems, livelihood generation, drudgery reduction, health and nutrition-related issues, management of natural resources, sustainable agriculture, climate change, disaster management etc.
The project proposal should include the development of viable technology/technique with the possibility of lab-land transfer, adaptation and scaling up for the benefit of society under the following broad thematic areas:

Broad Thematic Areas:
1. Energy, Water and Waste Management (EWWM)
2. Engineering and Technology Development (ETD)
3. Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development (ECSD)
4. Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
5. Health, Food and Nutrition (HFN)

Eligibility:
Employment: Candidates in regular employment are not eligible for WISE-SCOPE. However, women scientists who are temporarily employed in research or academics may apply to this program, but they have to leave their early assignment if selected for the WISE-SCOPE program.

Age: The minimum age to apply is 27 years, and the maximum is 60 years as of the date of submission.

Educational Qualification: Women Scientists who have completed PhD in basic or applied sciences or have equivalent degrees like MD/MS/MDS are eligible for WISE-SCOPE.

Financial support: This program provides a basic fellowship of the applicant .55000/- and HRA (as per norms) per month, a Research Grant of Rs. 2.0 lakhs per year, Field Demonstration etc. For Rs.1.0 lakh (for project tenure) and cost of small equipment (up to a maximum of Rs. 2.0 lakh) along with the institutional overhead charges as per DST norms.

Project Tenure: Upto 3 years

Selection Process: Criteria of selection will be on the basis of preliminary screening of eligibility, further applicant's credentials, identified scientific challenges, proposed scientific methodology, expected beneficiary on the ground by the outcome of the project, etc. And final selection would be made as per recommendations of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC). The final decision of DST will be communicated to the applicants only after obtaining due administrative and financial approvals.
