India's Homegrown GLP-1 Shot Is Quietly Making Progress

Everyone's talking about India's generic Ozempic boom. Almost no one's talking about the Indian company trying to invent its own.

Sun Pharma has been developing utreglutide (GL0034) โ€” an original GLP-1 molecule, not a copy โ€” for years. Early trials show real weight loss and metabolic benefits. It's still in Phase 2, with no drug application filed yet, so this is progress, not a finish line.

But if it works, it could be one of the first Indian-discovered drugs in a class dominated by Danish and American originators.

Save this if you follow pharma innovation, and share it with someone who thinks India only makes generics.

The 1954 Law Every Pharmacist Breaks Without Knowing

Ever told a customer a product "cures" something โ€” without checking if you're legally allowed to say that?

The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 is still fully enforced today. It bans claims for 54 named diseases (cancer, diabetes, TB, epilepsy, baldness, and more), bans "magic remedy" language of any kind, and carries real jail time โ€” up to a year for repeat offences. Courts are still citing it against modern advertising in 2026.

Swipe through to learn exactly where the line sits, so your counter advice always stays on the right side of it.

Save this for your next pharmacy law revision, and share it with a classmate who needs the reminder.

One Scan, No Doubt: How Raman Spectroscopy Catches Fake Drugs

1 in 10 medicines worldwide may be counterfeit. What if you could catch a fake
without even opening the pack?

Raman spectroscopy reads a molecule's unique light signature โ€” through sealed
glass, through blister foil, in under 30 seconds, right in the field. No lab
wait. No sample destroyed. Just light, science, and certainty.

This is the kind of field-ready skill that turns a pharmacy graduate into a
real guardian of patient safety โ€” and it's exactly what we teach at KMCP.

The Nimesulide Ban: 20 Years of Evidence, One Prescription Lesson

A third of nimesulide liver-injury cases showed up in under 15 days. That's the number that finally caught up with a drug Indian doctors prescribed for two decades.

From the 2003 BMJ warning that called its paediatric use "shocking," to the 2011 under-12 ban, to the December 2025 gazette notification pulling every oral formulation above 100mg off the shelf โ€” this carousel walks through the hepatotoxicity evidence that slowly, and then suddenly, changed how India prescribes.

For every pharmacy student at KMCP: this is what pharmacovigilance actually looks like in practice.

When Malnutrition Silently Blocks a Child's Medicine

This Poshan Maah, here's a connection most people never make.

Malnutrition doesn't just stunt growth โ€” it changes how a child's gut, liver, and kidneys handle medicine. Delayed absorption, altered protein binding, and slower drug clearance mean the "correct" dose on paper doesn't always translate to the right dose in the body.

For conditions like tuberculosis, where full-course treatment matters most, this gap can mean the difference between recovery and drug resistance. Indian pharmacokinetic research keeps pointing to the same conclusion: nutrition status deserves a place in every pediatric prescribing decision, not just in a September campaign.

Swipe through to see how it happens โ€” and what pharmacists and clinicians can do differently.

Save this for your next pediatric case discussion, and share it with someone in clinical practice.

๐Ÿ’ผ Hidden pharma careers โ€” Did you know this role exists?
The ICMR Career Pharmacy Students Keep Walking Past

Ask a pharmacy student what a "Pharmaceutical Economist" does, and most will guess it's not even a real job.

It is. And it sits inside one of India's most important health research systems โ€” the same body that helped decide drug pricing under Ayushman Bharat. It needs people who understand medicines, and there aren't nearly enough trained candidates to fill that gap yet.

Your pharmacy degree already gets you closer to this than you think. Swipe through to see what the role actually involves, why it stays invisible in most classrooms, and the one credential gap worth closing first.

Save this if you're rethinking your PG options, and share it with a classmate who's only looked at retail or industry so far.
