The College is situated at a vantage point, on the Madurai - Rameswaram highway and in between the legendary river Vaigai to its north and the famous Vandiyur Mariyamman Teppakulam to its south. The mission of the college is to render dedicated and yeoman service to the cause of higher education ,particularly to the weaker sections of society. The college envisages excellence in leaner centric pedagogy with a vibrant, innovative curriculum designed and developed to face the changing scenario of contemporary corporate and academic world. Everyone associated with the college contributes towards higher education,by providing the needed infrastructure, ICT (Information and Computer Technology) aids, extension activities, welfare programmes and several healthy practices. With the magnificent and significant contribution of the revered founder Thiagarajan Chettiar and the committed service and support of the respectable members of his family particularly, Dr.Mrs.Radha Thiagarajan , Mr.Karumuttu T.Kannan and Dr.Mrs. Uma Kannan (Emeritus President ,President and Correspondent , Secretary of the college respectively), the spirit of research, the "miles-to-go" attitude and the innovative and empowering culture, the college has witnessed phenomenal growth in every respect over the years in promoting and sustaining employability apart from Academic Excellence. It has undergone an appreciable and noteworthy change in terms of horizontal, vertical, special and positive ripples growth with the objective of spreading quality education, fostering research excellence and disseminating knowledge in various branches of academic inquiry. It has also been recognized as research centre of Excellence since 1978, and became Autonomous in 1987. The college was accredited with FIVE stars by National Assessment and Accreditation Council in 2001 and was Re-accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC in 2007. From the humble beginnings, offering only THREE courses, the college now offers FIFTY THREE programmes and scores of certificate / diploma courses in ELEVEN faculties (Tamil, English, Economics, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany/Bio-Technology, Zoology/Microbiology, Computer Science, Business Administration and Commerce). In tandem with the vision of the college to offer quality higher learning and value based education,the teaching faculty specialized in their respective programmes continue to serve this Institution with dedication and sincerity. Among the incumbent staff, 45 are Ph.Ds (of them 19 are research guides), 75 are M.Phils, 25 have degrees in many faculties, more than 50 have presented papers in National and International conferences and a handful are involved in International mega projects and published more than 100 titles. The alumni hold important positions like Supreme Court Judge, Vice Chancellors and Legislators, the present students bring more and more National level laurels in NCC, NSS, Academic and Cultural activities every year. Every activity in the college is oriented towards drawing the best out of all (students, staff and others). Around 50 associations / cells / committees / clubs function to achieve the vision set for 2020. The college fulfills the expectations of U.G.C in the matter of utilization of the 11th plan grant for the college overall development. Considering the importance of "Know Thyself" the college has formed an Internal Quality Assurance Cell.The Internal Quality Assurance Cell functions effectively to instill a sense of responsibility and collaborative excellence in the minds of youngsters to make them multi-talented. With the prosperous continuation of teamwork and unfailing cooperation of all and the grace of Goddess Meenakshi the college hopes to perform better to achieve the vision and mission of the college.
