📖 Beyond the Monster: Exploring the Mind of Mary Shelley

The MRCAS Readers’ Club organised an engaging and intellectually enriching book-review session on Frankenstein, Mary Shelley’s timeless Gothic masterpiece.

Moving beyond the surface of the story, the discussion examined the novel’s remarkable intellectual and emotional depth. Participants explored its enduring questions surrounding:

🔬 Scientific ambition and ethical responsibility
🧠 Identity, isolation and the need for acceptance
⚖️ The consequences of unchecked experimentation
🤝 Humanity, compassion and moral accountability

The session encouraged readers to consider a powerful question: When knowledge advances beyond responsibility, who bears the consequences—the creator or the creation?

By bringing literature and scientific thought into meaningful conversation, the review helped participants understand the historical and literary context of Shelley’s work while developing critical thinking, ethical awareness and a scientific temper.

Through initiatives such as this, the MRCAS Readers’ Club continues to nurture reflective readers who do not merely read books—but question, interpret and connect them with the world around them.

🌸 Creativity Blossomed—One Chenille Stem at a Time!

The Department of Costume Designing and Fashion Technology, MRCAS, organized an engaging Chenille Flower Making Workshop on 20 September 2026 at the Kalaignar Centenary Library, Madurai.

Designed for participants of all age groups, from enthusiastic children to creative adults, the workshop offered a colourful, hands-on introduction to transforming simple chenille stems into beautiful handcrafted flowers.

Our talented students—N. Dharani, Madhu Bala and A. Akshaya—conducted the session and guided the participants through every stage of the creative process with clear, step-by-step demonstrations.

The participants enthusiastically explored their imagination, learned a new craft and created their own unique floral designs. The workshop beautifully brought together creativity, skill, learning and community engagement.

From Nervous Beginnings to Confident Voices

The Department of English, under the Lingua Literaria Club, successfully organized a skill-enhancement session on “Compering and the Art of the Welcome Address” for the students of I and II B.Com (C.A.) on 19 September 2026.

The session was guided by:

Moving beyond theory, the workshop offered students a practical introduction to professional event communication. Participants learned how to:

✍️ Structure formal and engaging scripts
🎤 Refine voice modulation and stage delivery
🤝 Address an audience with confidence and courtesy
🎙️ Present welcome addresses through live podium practice

The drafting exercises and demonstrations encouraged active participation, helping students transform their ideas into clear, confident and impactful presentations.

More than a communication session, the initiative provided a supportive platform for students to overcome public-speaking anxiety, strengthen their stage presence and develop skills essential for academic and professional success.

🌱 Planting Today for a Greener Tomorrow! 🌱

The MRCAS–NSS, in association with the GIANTS Welfare Foundation, successfully organised a Tree Plantation Activity on 18 September 2026 at the MRCAS campus. The initiative formed part of the GIANTS Welfare Foundation Service Week celebrations and the MRCAS Green Campus Initiative.

The programme was honoured by the presence of:

Our NSS Programme Officers, Dr. D. Saravana Prakash and Dr. C. Nagarani, together with the NSS student volunteers, enthusiastically participated in the initiative. Their involvement transformed the activity into a meaningful hands-on learning experience centred on environmental conservation, social responsibility and sustainable campus development.
