What are cells? π¬
Cells are the basic structural and functional units of life. Every living organism is made of one or more cells, and each cell carries out essential processes such as energy production, growth, communication, and reproduction. Cells contain specialized structures called organelles that perform specific tasks, including the nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, and cell membrane. Together, cells form tissues, organs, organ systems, and entire organisms.

20 Amino Acids | Building Blocks of Proteins & Life
Amino acids are the fundamental building blocks of proteins. Every protein in your bodyβfrom enzymes and hormones to antibodies and muscle fibersβis constructed from just 20 standard amino acids.
The sequence of amino acids determines how a protein folds, functions, and interacts within living cells. These remarkable molecules are the foundation of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and life itself.

𧫠In microbiology, we use the term CFU (Colony Forming Units) instead of βexact bacterial cell countβ because one visible colony may develop from a single bacterial cell or from a small cluster of cells growing together. π¦
For this reason, accurate viable cell counting is usually performed using plates containing 30-300 colonies.
Plates with very few colonies may not represent the sample properly, while overcrowded plates can lead to counting errors and inaccurate estimations. π¬
Understanding these small details is important because CFU calculations are widely used in research, clinical microbiology, food safety, and pharmaceutical testing.
Why do you think maintaining the correct dilution factor is essential before plating a sample? π
