Why document food testing data?
Documenting your food testing data is not only a legal requirement, but also a way to improve your processes, identify issues, and support your claims. Keeping accurate and consistent records of your tests can help you monitor and verify the performance of your equipment, ingredients, and methods.
Food Technology Needs a Regulatory Revolution
The Indian food processing
industry is regulated by numerous
laws and regulations which
govern the aspects of, sanitation,
licensing, and other essential

start up and run a food business.
The legislation that dispensed
with food safety in India was the
Prevention of Food Adulteration
Act, 1954 (hereinafter referred to
as "PFA"). The PFA had been in
place for over five decades and
there was a need for change due
to varied ins and outs which
include the changing parameters
of the food industry

I found a food pack with Nausadar mentioned in the
ingredient list. Intrigues, I checked what it is. I learnt that Nausadar is another name for ammonium chloride. In Ayurveda, it is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as runny nose, stuffy nose and sneezing. FAO has
permitted usage of ammonium chloride in food
categories such as - flavoured milk drinks, processed
cheese, snacks, and confectionery.
Ammonium chloride also labelled as salmaik or E510 in
the ingredient list of food labels. It is used as a yeast
nutrient in breadmaking and as an acidifier.
Ammonium chloride is used to spice up dark sweets
called salty liquorice in some Nordic countries. In some
countries such as Iran, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan, it is called "noshader" and is used to improve the crispness of snacks such as samosas and jalebis.

Tamil Nadu has prohibited the sale of cotton
candy following the discovery of Rhodamine-B, a
cancer-causing element, in the product.
State Health Minister Ma Subramanian declared the
ban after a food lab analysis deemed cotton candy and
other colored sweets containing Rhodamine-B unsafe
for consumption. Anyone involved in producing, selling,
serving, or packaging Rhodamine-B-laced products will
face severe repercussions.
The directive also mandates food safety authorities to
conduct rigorous inspections and take strict action
against violators. Puducherry has already enforced a
ban on cotton candy. This decision is expected to
impact the livelihoods of numerous cotton candy
vendors and manufacturers across Tamil Nadu.

Coca-Cola removes labels from Sprite bottles in new
'label-less' trial
In an innovative trial, Sprite is shaking up its
packaging strategy by removing front labels from its
bottles to enhance their visual appeal and differentiate
them from competitors.During this pilot program, both 500ml Sprite and Sprite Zero bottles will undergo a temporary label-free transformation. Instead, an embossed logo will take center stage on the front of the pack, while all essential product and nutritional information will be laser-engraved on the back.
This exciting trial will run until March, with the
transparent bottles available for purchase exclusively at eight Tesco Express locations in the UK.
Sprite's motivation behind this bold move?
While their current labels are fully recyclable, ditching
them altogether simplifies the recycling process even
further. This forward-thinking solution not only reduces
packaging materials but also eliminates the need for
label separation during recycling, making it a win-win for both consumers and the environment.
