GANDHI JAYANTI

Some lessons are not taught; they are lived. Gandhi reminds us that the truest education lies not merely in what we teach, but in the values we embody.

May our children learn to walk the path of truth, practise kindness, uphold dignity, and discover the courage to make a difference.

Let us not merely remember Gandhi. Let us become the lesson.

WHEN A MEAL BECOMES A MEMORY

There are occasions when the true luxury lies not in what is served, but in the warmth with which it is shared.

The general staff of Guru Ram Dass Academy recently stepped away from their everyday routines to gather around a rather different table at Babas’ x Soir7—one where the day's familiar rhythms gave way to the pleasures of fine dining, leisurely conversation and the rare joy of being together without the pressing demands of duty.

The ambience had its own eloquence: an interplay of elegance, aesthetics and understated grandeur. Yet, the most captivating sight was not the setting itself, but the expressions around the table. Curiosity mingled with a touch of trepidation; tentative smiles betrayed the unfamiliarity of an experience that, for many, was their first encounter with the rituals of fine dining.

It was Ms Ashmeet Oberoi, Managing Director, who gently dispelled the initial reserve. As she introduced the place and recounted the story of its inception, the unfamiliar began to acquire a human connection. The silence softened, curiosity found its voice, and the evening began to unfold at its own unhurried pace.

Then came the sensory seduction of the spread—the aromas, the colours, the artful presentation and the sumptuous array of delicacies. Hesitation gradually yielded to discovery. Palates ventured beyond the familiar; conversations gathered momentum; laughter travelled effortlessly from one end of the table to the other. Before long, the room was alive with the unstudied bonhomie of colleagues discovering the simple pleasure of sharing something extraordinary together.

The concluding notes were sweet ones, with ice cream and gulab jamuns lending a familiar Indian warmth to an otherwise cosmopolitan culinary experience. But the sweetest aftertaste was perhaps the feeling of having been thought of, included and celebrated.

As the gathering drew to a close, expressions of gratitude to Ms Ashmeet came naturally. She had done more than play the perfect host; she had helped turn an unfamiliar setting into a space of comfort, conversation and camaraderie.

The initiative was the brainchild of S. Kawaljit Singh, Vice Chairman, conceived as part of the Vareena—a commemorative observance in the cherished memory of our late Chairman, S. Raja Singh Ji. It was a thoughtful gesture that carried a sentiment larger than the occasion itself: that the people who contribute to an institution's everyday life deserve moments in which they can simply pause, partake and feel valued.

For, an institution is not built by its grandest rooms or its most visible achievements alone. It is sustained by countless hands, quiet commitments and people whose work often unfolds away from the spotlight.

And sometimes, the most meaningful way to honour those contributions is to draw everyone to the same table.

The meal ended. The memory stayed. And somewhere between the first tentative glance and the last shared laugh, a little more of the school family came into being.

THE MOST IMPORTANT FIREWALL IS HUMAN

We live in a world where a single click can open a classroom, a bank, a library—or a trap. The distance between safety and vulnerability can be no greater than one careless moment.

Recognising this invisible landscape, Guru Ram Dass Academy, Ludhiana, organised a Capacity Building Programme on “Cyber Security and Safety: Awareness, Prevention and Responsible Digital Practices”, conducted by Mr. Rohit Malhotra and Mr. Baljeet Singh of Jalandhar.

What unfolded was more than a workshop on technology. It was a conversation about human judgement.

Through discussions on cybercrime, phishing, online and banking fraud, protection of confidential information, digital evidence, cyber ethics and responsible online behaviour, familiar digital risks were brought into sharp, practical focus. Beneath the technical vocabulary emerged a simple but powerful discipline:
Pause. Question. Verify. Then act.

The programme also underscored that cyber security is not merely about protecting devices. It is about protecting judgement, dignity, integrity and trust.

With 51 educators participating, the programme remained engaging and interactive, turning everyday digital situations into opportunities for reflection and awareness.

For educators, this responsibility is even greater. Teachers do not merely teach children how to use technology; they help shape how they conduct themselves within a connected world. Every act of verification, respect for privacy, responsible sharing and ethical digital behaviour becomes a lesson in itself.

Perhaps, then, the finest firewall is not made of code.

It is made of conscience.
A pause before the click.
A question before the trust.
A verification before the transfer.
A thought before the post.

Our sincere appreciation to Mr. Rohit Malhotra and Mr. Baljeet Singh for transforming an urgent contemporary concern into an engaging and meaningful learning experience.

Think before you click.
Respect before you post.
Verify before you trust.
Stay aware. Stay ethical. Stay safe.

Because the safest digital future will not belong merely to those who understand technology, but to those who understand the responsibility that comes with it.

At Guru Ram Dass Academy, Ludhiana, we are looking for educators who bring something that no degree can certify—a questioning mind, a commanding grasp of their subject, and the rare ability to leave a mind changed.

Because classrooms need more than teachers.
They need voices worth listening to.

SEP- 2026-27: WHEN TALENT TOOK CENTRE STAGE

Gaiety was in the air, anticipation was at a crescendo, and the stage was set to sparkle as Guru Ram Dass Academy, Ludhiana, hosted its much-awaited two-day Students’ Enrichment Programme 2026–27—a celebration where talent found its voice, creativity its canvas, and healthy rivalry its finest expression.

The Senior School contests found a fitting setting in the Velvet Hall, Nirvana Luxury Hotel, where elegant aesthetics, impeccable acoustics and an air of occasion lent the proceedings a distinct grandeur. Outside, August simmered; inside, excitement did. Houses sized one another up, participants rehearsed last-minute lines and movements, and the air carried the unmistakable electricity of “Let the contest commence!”

And begin it did—with music.

Soul-stirring Group Songs opened the programme, filling the hall with melody, harmony and youthful exuberance. Soon, the stage became a vibrant theatre of talent: Trilingual Declamation brought eloquence and conviction; the Quiz tested recall, reasoning and presence of mind; TED Talks opened windows to ideas and perspectives; while Trilingual Poetry Recitation transformed words into rhythm, imagery and emotion.

Then came Day Two, and with it, renewed energy and sharpened resolve. Skits infused the stage with drama and wit; Punjabi Extempore demanded spontaneity, linguistic flair and quick thinking; and Group Dances turned the hall into a whirl of rhythm, colour and movement.

Behind the polish of every performance lay an unseen story of rehearsal, resilience and teamwork—lines repeated, steps corrected, ideas refined and nerves conquered. Competition was keen, but never overshadowed camaraderie. Indeed, the unmistakable Academy applause repeatedly swept through the hall in rolling waves whenever a performance struck a resonant chord.

And perhaps that was the real triumph of the SEP.

Across two exhilarating days, 177 students stepped beyond the familiar boundaries of the classroom and into an arena of possibility. The reserved found a voice; the hesitant discovered confidence; the thinkers found an audience; the performers found their moment. Some revealed talents others had not seen. Some discovered talents they themselves had not known they possessed.

The SEP thus became not merely a competition, but a revelation of young potential.

Then came the moment towards which two days of anticipation had been steadily building—the declaration of results.

The final tally placed Benevolent House at the foot of the table, while Amiable and Diligent Houses finished joint second. Then came the announcement that sent a surge of jubilation through the hall:

Courteous House emerged at the top of the table, lifting the coveted Champions Trophy.

Cheers erupted. Applause thundered. Smiles widened. For a fleeting moment, victory belonged entirely to one House.

But only for a moment.

For the deeper measure of the SEP could never be confined to a trophy or a certificate tally. Its true legacy lay in confidence acquired, fears overcome, friendships forged, teamwork strengthened and memories made.

Competition, after all, is not merely about defeating another. It is about discovering a stronger, braver and better version of oneself.

And so, when the curtains finally fell, they seemed to descend not upon an event, but upon an experience—rich with pride, exhilaration, camaraderie, nostalgia and joy.

The hall emptied. The lights dimmed. The applause faded.

But the echoes remained:

voices that had dared to speak,
music that had dared to soar,
poetry that had dared to move,
ideas that had dared to challenge,
performances that had dared to dazzle.

The trophy may have gone to Courteous House.

The triumph, however, belonged to the entire Academy.

On our 80th Independence Day, let us not ask only, “What did India achieve in eighty years?”

Let us ask: “What remains within us that India is still waiting to be freed from?”

May we have the courage to free our minds from prejudice, our hearts from hatred, our institutions from indifference and our aspirations from selfishness.

For the next freedom struggle is not against an empire.

It is against everything that prevents India from becoming the finest expression of what a free, just, compassionate and enlightened nation can be.

And that struggle begins—not somewhere in India, but within each one of us.

Jai Hind.

STUDENTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME 2026-27 (PRIMARY WING)

The much-anticipated Students’ Enrichment Programme of the Primary Wing came alive in a vibrant display of colour, rhythm, and youthful enthusiasm, as the four Houses engaged in a spirited celebration of India’s 80th Independence Day.

The theme was not merely presented—it was embodied. It resonated through every poem, every costume, every question, every musical beat, and every movement on stage. Across eight keenly contested segments—Fancy Dress; English Poetry for Classes I–II and III–V; Punjabi Poetry for Classes I–II and III–V; Quiz for Classes I–II and III–V; and Dance—107 young participants transformed the stage into a vivid miniature of India.

And then, the Houses came alive with energy.
House spirit, unmistakable and unwavering, rose from the audience in waves. Every performance carried the pride of its House; every cheer seemed to elevate the contestants further. The children competed with a seriousness beyond their years, yet with the innocence that makes childhood competition so pure and endearing.

There were moments when the arena seemed to hold its breath—and others when it erupted in applause. Victory was met with joy; disappointment was briefly veiled behind glistening eyes. There were embraces that needed no words, cheers that seemed to lift the roof, clenched fists, triumphant leaps, and consoling gestures. Tears of disappointment mingled with tears of joy. In these fleeting, unscripted moments, the children created a narrative far more powerful than any report could convey.

When the final scores were announced, Benevolent House emerged as the winner, securing the coveted top position. Amiable House followed as the worthy runners-up, while Courteous House and Diligent House shared third place.

Yet, perhaps the most meaningful achievement belonged to those behind the scenes—the teachers who rehearsed, guided, corrected, encouraged, and inspired, quietly weaving together countless efforts into a seamless whole. Their pride was as evident as that of the children, for behind every confident performance lay hours of dedicated preparation and steadfast support.

The Students’ Enrichment Programme was, ultimately, far more than a competition. It was an expression of childhood courage, cultural celebration, friendly rivalry, and patriotism voiced through a hundred young hearts.

For a few unforgettable hours, the Houses did not merely compete.

They breathed. They battled. They believed. They roared.

And when the curtains finally fell, what remained was not just a winning trophy, but the echo of 107 young hearts discovering the profound joy of belonging to something greater than themselves.
