PAU KISAN MELA AT GURDASPUR ENCOURAGES SCIENTIFIC FARMING TO BOOST FARM INCOME
The concluding event of the PAU Kisan Mela series themed “Vigyanak Dhang Apnao, Kheti Aamdan Vadhao” took place at the PAU Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur, today. Sh. Lal Chand Kataruchak, Hon’ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Forests, Punjab, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Sh. Sukhjeet Pal Singh, IAS, the worthy Vice-Chancellor, PAU, presided over the event. Among the guests of honour were Sh. Shamsher Singh, Dinanagar; Sh. Raman Bahl, former Chairman, Punjab Health System Corporation; and S. Jagroop Singh Sekhwan. Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research; Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, Dr T. S. Dhillon, Additional Director Extension Education, Dr Manmohanjeet Singh, Dean, College of Agriculture, Ballowal were also present among the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Sh. Lal Chand Kataruchak, applauded PAU’s efforts to align its research with the evolving needs and challenges of agriculture. He attributed Punjab’s agricultural progress to the dedicated efforts and expert guidance provided by PAU over the years. Reiterating the commitment of the Food and Supplies Department, Punjab to serve farmers, he ensured the timely lifting of paddy from foodgrain markets. In view of the growing environmental concerns, he urged farmers to adopt water-saving practices and environment-friendly technologies. Appreciating the significant participation of women farmers in the Mela, he described their presence as a reflection of the valuable contribution of women to agricultural production. He observed that Kisan Melas energize the farming community and stressed the need to strengthen the younger generation’s connect with agriculture. He urged farmers to put the knowledge and technologies acquired during the Mela into practice in their fields.
In his presidential address, Sh. Sukhjitpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, described Kisan Melas as a two-way platform that enables the University to disseminate scientific advancements, improved farm practices and developments in agricultural machinery, while also providing scientists an opportunity to learn from farmers’ experiences and field-level challenges. He emphasized that PAU’s research is undertaken with farmers’ needs at its core and urged farmers to reciprocate by adopting the University’s recommended technologies and practices. Such adoption, he noted, can help reduce input costs and enhance profitability in agriculture.
Highlighting water conservation and effective paddy straw management as two critical concerns facing Punjab agriculture, he encouraged farmers to adopt water-saving varieties of wheat and rice. He also stressed the need to view paddy straw not merely as a farming challenge but as a valuable resource, particularly in view of the soil-health benefits associated with its proper in-situ management. Sh. Sukhjitpal Singh further highlighted the potential of agro-processing and agri-entrepreneurship for enhancing farm income. He urged farmers, particularly the younger generation, to make use of the training programmes, technical guidance and financial support available for start-ups and entrepreneurship at PAU. Such initiatives, he said, could help strengthen the younger generation’s connect with both PAU and agriculture.
Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, highlighted the University’s research achievements and farmer-oriented technologies. He noted that Punjab’s agricultural progress rests on scientific research, farmers’ efforts, extension services. He also highlighted PAU’s contribution to Indian agriculture through the development of over 990 crop varieties, with more than 250 approved nationwide.
Sharing recent crop varieties released in the past six months, he mentioned popular wheat varieties such as PBW 826 covering approx. 45% area under its cultivation and PBW 872, covering 10-15% cultivation area in merely one year. Further, PB Chapati 1 (best suitable for chapatti); PB RS1(suitable for diabetic) were mentioned. Further recent releases in wheat included PBW 887 (24-25 quintal yield); PBW 927(19 quintal yield and suitable for low irrigation areas); lentil (LL 1613 (masar)); mustard (Punjab Raya Canola 7, Punjab Raya 813); peas (Ageta 😎, and berseem (BL 45). Among vegetable varieties in potato, Punjab potato 103 and 104 were mentioned while in onion varieties, Punjab Naroa was mentioned for its suitability for early sowing and bolting resistant qualities. Innovative techniques such as connecting irrigation sensors to phones, management of Gulli Danda, micro-irrigation were also mentioned. He also discussed using lactic acid bacteria technology to produce maize silage for animals. He urged farmers to follow the university’s advice on water conservation and emphasized the importance of in-situ management of paddy straw.
In his welcome address, Dr M.S. Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, expressed his delight over the large turnout of farmers at the Mela. He appreciated farmers for adopting improved varieties and the crop production and protection technologies recommended by PAU. He urged farmers to make full use of the expertise available at the Mela by consulting scientists on their agricultural concerns and sharing the challenges they face in the field. He further encouraged farmers to regularly follow the weekly newspaper Kheti Sandesh, PAU’s Facebook Live sessions, WhatsApp groups and YouTube channel to access the latest agricultural developments, advisories, crop-related information, weather-based recommendations, new technologies and other essential updates.
The event also featured a felicitation ceremony to acknowledge the contributions of distinguished individuals to the University and the farming community. Dr T.S. Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education (ADEE), PAU, and Sh. Sarabjeet Singh, Regional Research Station (RRS), Gurdaspur, were honoured for their dedicated services to the University. Progressive farmers from the Gurdaspur and Pathankot areas were also felicitated for their contributions to agriculture and their adoption of improved farming practices. From Gurdaspur, the honourees included S. Harjinder Singh of Bhopar Sainda, S. Manjeet Singh of Poorowal Jattan, S. Gurjinder Singh of Sekhupura, and S. Tarsem Singh of Dulanangal. From Pathankot, S. Balbir Singh of Khalaah and Sh. Sidharath Dadwal of Muradpur were felicitated.
Dr Ravinder Singh Chandi, Principal Entomologist, PAU, conducted the proceedings of the stage. Dr. Harpal Singh Randhawa, Director, PAU Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur, proposed the vote of thanks.
The mela’s main attractions included interactions with PAU scientists, field demonstrations, and agro-industrial exhibitions. Farmers showed particular enthusiasm for purchasing Rabi crop seeds, fruit plants and PAU’s agricultural literature. Adding further significance to the event, the presidium also unveiled PAU’s latest literature on Rabi crops, providing farmers with updated and scientifically validated information for the upcoming season.

ਪੀ.ਏ.ਯੂ. ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਜ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੇਲਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ, ਸਿਵਲ ਸਪਲਾਈਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਖਪਤਕਾਰ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲਾਲ ਚੰਦ ਕਟਾਰੂਚੱਕ ਸਨ। ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸੁਖਜੀਤਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਹੈਲਥ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਮਨ ਬਹਿਲ, ਹਲਕਾ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਦੀਨਾਨਗਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸ ਜਗਰੂਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੇਖਵਾਂ, ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਖੋਜ ਡਾ ਅਜਮੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੱਟ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਡਾ ਮੱਖਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁੱਲਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਪਤਵੰਤਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਚ ਉੱਪਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹੇ।
ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲਾਲ ਚੰਦ ਕਟਾਰੂਚੱਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਾਂਹਵਧੂ ਲੀਹਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਤੋਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਢੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਢਾ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਖੇਤ ਅਸਲ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤੀ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਸੌਟੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਰਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਖੇਤੀ ਵੰਗਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਕਟਾਰੂਚੱਕ ਨੇ ਝੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਖਰੀਦ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਸੰਕਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਧਾਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਜੁੱਟ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਲੇਖ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਤੇਜ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਲਾਹੇਵੰਦ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਿੱਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਆਮਦਨ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਧੰਦੇ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਖਰਚੇ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਪਾਏ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਕਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੋਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਰ ਹਾਲ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਖੇ।
ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸੁਖਜੀਤਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ,ਆਈ ਏ ਐੱਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਢੰਗ ਅਪਣਾਓ, ਖੇਤੀ ਆਮਦਨ ਵਧਾਓ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤਬੰਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੂਰ ਪੈ ਸਕੇਗਾ। ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਅਹਿਮ ਦਾਤ ਕਿਹਾ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ, ਨਦੀਨਾਂ, ਕੀੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਦੇ ਢੰਗ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ।
ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਝੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਸਰੋਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਬਿਜਾਈ ਦੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਢੰਗ ਸਰਫ਼ੇਸ ਸੀਡਿੰਗ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਨੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਮੁਨਾਫ਼ੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਵੱਲ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੋਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਅਨੁਕੂਲ ਮੌਸਮ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਭਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
ਪੀ.ਏ.ਯੂ. ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਖੋਜ ਡਾ. ਅਜਮੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੱਟ ਨੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਸੀਜ਼ਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ, ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ, ਪੌਦ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਂਝੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਡਾ ਢੱਟ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਏ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਨੇ ਹੁਣ ਤਕ 990 ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ 250 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਪਰ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਲਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦਾ ਮੰਤਵ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਿਹਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਮੁਨਾਫੇ ਲਈ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਕਰਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਫਸਲੀ ਸੀਜ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ ਲਿਆਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਪੀ ਬੀ ਡਬਲਯੂ 887 ਅਤੇ ਪੀ ਬੀ ਡਬਲਯੂ 927 ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ । ਮਸਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਐੱਲ ਐੱਲ 1613, ਸਰ੍ਹੋਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਰਾਇਆ ਕਨੋਲਾ 7 ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਰਾਇਆ 813, ਬਰਸੀਮ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਬੀ ਐੱਲ 45 ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਢੱਟ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਸਾਵੇਂ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੌਦ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁੱਲੀ ਡੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ, ਸੂਖਮ ਸਿੰਚਾਈ, ਗੋਭੀ ਸਰ੍ਹੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੋਰੀਆ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਰ ਫਸਲੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਲੈਕਟਿਕ ਐਸਿਡ ਬੈਕਟੀਰੀਆ ਜਾਗ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸਵਾਗਤੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਡਾ. ਮੱਖਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁੱਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਹੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਢੇ ਪੰਜ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਉਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਿਜਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਲਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਮੁਨਾਫ਼ੇਯੋਗ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ। ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਖੋਜ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਤਕ ਪੁਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਇਹ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਇਕੱਠ ਖਿੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਬੀਬੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਇਲਾਕਾ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਹਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਡਾ. ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਨੇ ਕਹੇ। ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਵਾਲ ਜਵਾਬ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ। ਮੇਲੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਗਾਂਹਵਧੂ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਖਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸਲੀ ਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ, ਸ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਭੋਪਰ ਸੈਂਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਡੇਅਰੀ ਫਾਰਮਿੰਗ ਲਈ, ਸ ਮਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਪੂਰੋਵਾਲ ਜੱਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਲਈ, ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸਿਧਾਰਥ ਦਾਦਵਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਗਬਾਨੀ ਲਈ, ਸ ਗੁਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਸ਼ੇਖੂਪੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸਲੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਵਾਧੇ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਸ ਤਰਸੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੂਲਾਨੰਗਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਵਧੀਕ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਡਾ ਤਰਸੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਸ ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਾਏ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਲਈ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਖੇਤੀ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਗਾਊਂ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਵਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਸਵੈ ਸੇਵੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ, ਕਿਸਾਨ ਨਿਰਮਾਤਾ ਸੰਗਠਨਾਂ, ਨਿੱਜੀ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੀ ਏ ਯੂ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀਆਂ ਲਗਾਈਆਂ । ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ, ਫ਼ਲਦਾਰ ਬੂਟੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਦਿਲਚਸਪੀ ਦਿਖਾਈ।
