The PG Department of English organised a delightful one-day trip to Solan on 13.04.2026 for the students of MA English, offering them a refreshing blend of learning and leisure. The group explored some of the region’s most serene and culturally significant sites, including Menri Monastery, where students had a meaningful encounter with Buddhist culture, the renowned Jatoli Temple, which offered a deeply spiritual experience, and the scenic Riva Waterfall, allowing everyone to connect closely with nature.

The trip provided students with an opportunity to unwind, bond with peers, and engage with diverse cultural and natural landscapes. The students were accompanied and guided by four faculty members from the department—Dr. Suraj Kumar, Prof. Gurjeet Singh, Prof. Mandeep Kaur, and Prof. Paramjeet Kaur—whose presence ensured a safe and enriching experience throughout.

Such initiatives reflect the department’s commitment to holistic learning beyond the classroom.

Dr. Hina Goyal, Assistant Professor of English, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, was the resource person.

She also guided students on competitive examinations — UGC-NET, UPSC Civil Services, SSC-CGL, and State PCS — as pathways into higher education and government services, stressing the importance of writing, research, and communication skills in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

The session concluded with a lively discussion, with students raising questions particularly about Mass Communication as a career. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu appreciated the department's initiative in helping students gain clarity on their professional pathways. Head of Department, Prof. Amita Thaman, remarked that such sessions are essential for helping students make informed career decisions.
