🎓 Big News for Future Scholars!

🇨🇦 Beginning January 2026, international students pursuing master’s or doctoral programs at public universities will be exempt from Canada’s federal study permit caps.

This update, announced under the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan, reflects Canada’s commitment to balancing growth with sustainability while keeping pathways open for high-skilled talent and research excellence.

Under the new policy, PhD applicants will benefit from 14-day priority processing for study permits — including for accompanying family members. A new IRCC graduate portal will also provide clearer guidance on study, work, and post-graduation options.

While overall international student arrivals will be capped at 155,000 in 2026 and 150,000 in 2027 and 2028, this exemption ensures that advanced researchers continue to view Canada as a global hub for innovation and higher learning.

This move highlights Canada’s confidence in nurturing top academic talent while maintaining a balanced approach to immigration planning.
