Scientifically, the date palm ( Phoenix dactylifera ) is a dioecious plant, which means: Male trees produce pollen only. Female trees produce flowers that develop into dates, but only after pollination from a male tree.
The trunk of a date palm is not made of solid wood like oak or pine. It consists of numerous vascular bundles embedded in fibrous tissue. These bundles run vertically and are interconnected laterally, giving the trunk a woven or mesh-like structure.
Because of this fibrous structure, date palms can bend without breaking during strong winds and can support very heavy fruit clusters.
Modern plant anatomy and material science confirm the accuracy of this description. The observations reflect real biological structure and function, expressed in descriptive language appropriate to the time, but fully consistent with contemporary science.

Imam And Science
We, the Students of Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq (a.s). Explore Islamic and scientific teachings to gain knowledge.
It is also narrated that Imam Baqir (ع) had said:
Allah created the thing from which are all things, and it is the water from which He created the things. So He lineaged everything to the water and did not make a lineage for the water to which it can be ascribed. And He created the wind from the water, then made the wind to overcome the water._
_So the wind sent down into the body of the water until foam swirled from the water in accordance with what He so desired it to swirl. So He created from that foam, pure white land with no crack in it, nor any holes, neither ascending nor descending, and no tree. Then He folded it, so He placed it on top of the water._
_Then Allah created the fire from the water, so the fire burst out of the body of the water until smoke arose from the water in accordance with Allah so desired it to rise. So He created from that smoke, clear and pure sky in which there were no cracks nor any holes…

Reference: Ghurar al-Hikam, p. 289. Imam Ali (a.s.) reminds us that sorrow, if uncontrolled, weakens the heart. Regret may have a moral value when it leads to repentance, but excessive grief becomes self-destructive.
Imam Ali’s advice aligns with modern psychology, which warns that chronic regret leads to anxiety and depression. Letting go is essential for mental health and growth.

The words of Imam Ali in this sermon are beautiful because they carry both simplicity and depth. He describes the creation of a human being in gentle stages: from a drop, to a clot, to a child, then to an infant, and finally to youth. The flow of these words has a natural rhythm, almost like poetry, which makes them pleasing to hear and easy to remember.
The beauty also comes from the picture it paints. Just as a seed slowly grows into a tree with roots, branches, and leaves, human life unfolds step by step. Nothing happens all at once, but each stage leads to the next, building a complete life with care and order.
Another reason this passage feels so powerful is that it connects faith with knowledge. Centuries ago, Imam Ali spoke about stages in the womb in a way that modern science now confirms. This harmony between ancient wisdom and today’s discoveries shows the timeless truth in his words.
