Lok Sabha, in its special session, shall deliberate upon the 1975 Emergency in India. Being a constant crisis committee, delegates will be challenged to stay on their toes as they navigate the complex and rapidly evolving events of this turbulent time, making decisions that could alter the course of history as we know it.

On June 25, 1975, the proclamation of Emergency by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi marked the beginning of one of the darkest periods in Indian history. This unprecedented move, justified by Gandhi as a necessary step to restore order amidst political and civil unrest, led to the suspension of fundamental rights, censorship of the press, and widespread arrests of political opponents. The Emergency period (1975-1977) saw the Indian democracy being overshadowed by autocratic rule, fundamentally altering the nation's political landscape and leaving an indelible mark on its democratic nature.

Established in London, United Kingdom, Amnesty seeks the emancipation of political prisoners to uphold the spectrum of human rights worldwide. Immensely committed to the cause of abolishing capital punishment, preservation of sexual and reproductive rights, combating racial discrimination, and defending the rights of refugees and migrants on alien grounds, this preeminent non-governmental organization aims to safeguard and empower the people against human rights infringements.

Jaipuria Model United Nations has always strived to achieve an audience that is conscious of right from wrong. This year, we have the United Nations Human Rights Council through which we aspire to ensure that we highlight Amnesty International's goals and raise awareness on the violation of human rights by deliberating upon the much needed criminal justice reforms around the world.
