The 10th Annual Conference (IIC-2016) of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, commenced with great fanfare on March 12, 2016. The theme for this year’s conference is “Technology and Business”. It is a two day flagship conference that has been conducted by the college annually since 2006.
Technology and business are quite relevant terms in the ever changing business scenario all across the world. Businesses have been at the forefront of technology for ages. Technology has not only created new business opportunities, but has also helped the businesses to manage it better. Taking this into account, the agenda of IIC 2016 is to facilitate sharing of research based knowledge, case studies and novel business applications related to technology and business among academicians and practitioners.
The Chief Guest for the conference was Mr. Mrutyunjay Mahaputra, Deputy Managing Director and CIO, State Bank of India. The much awaited event commenced with the inaugural session. After the lightning of the lamp and ode to Goddess Saraswati, the theme of the conference was initiated by Prof. Dheeraj Misra (Dean, Research and Development). He highlighted for the audience that IIC has emerged as an insightful forum for thoughtful and fruitful deliberations over the years. He opined that innovation is the fundamental impulse that keeps the capitalist in motion. Innovation via technological advances has turned labour intensive banking industry into a capital intensive industry. He also talked about the support being forwarded by technological advances to companies, to upgrade their products and to launch them with improved versions. He pointed out that therefore these days, it is not the fittest of species that survive but the one which is responsive to change. While welcoming the Chief Guest, Mr. Mrutyunjay Mahaputra, Deputy Managing Director and CIO, State Bank of India, Prof. Mishra introduced the guest as a post graduate in physics and management. He highlighted that Mr. Mahaputra has not only scaled great heights in his career in India but also abroad. Thereafter, Mr. Mahaputra in his address to the audience talked about three kinds of innovation. He made the audience aware that while incremental innovation occurs naturally but it is platform innovation and disruptive innovation which are sweeping the world nowadays. If the normal procedure of the whole industry is changed then we term it as a disruptive innovation and the businesses are now witnessing a change that has made its original identity indistinguishable. He also gave a presentation describing the power of data analytics and delivery platform agnostics. The presentation also talked about the myths and reality of digital banking and the steps taken by SBI to use digital technology, future trends in banking and security challenges being faced thereof.
The session continued with the unveiling of the souvenir of the 10th IIC.
Thereafter, Prof.Kavita Pathak proposed the vote of thanks by summarizing the key learnings and insights from the session. She sensitised the audience to the fact that today technology is changing consumer buying behaviour which makes it necessary for the companies to identify these changes and respond accordingly. She highlighted how businesses are coming up with disruptive innovations creating unfathomable business opportunities.
The inaugural session concluded with the chief guest being presented a memento as a token of the institute’s gratitude for his presence.
After a tea and refreshment hiatus, the conference continued with the first technical session woven around the theme - Digital Banking. The session was moderated by Prof. Shyam Ji Mehrotra, while the theme speakers for the session were Mr. Pramod Dixit, Deputy Director, Punjab National Bank Institute of Information Technology, Lucknow, Mr. Nayagam, General Manager (IT), Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank and Mr. Amar Habibullah, Co-Founder and Director Trenserv Pvt. Ltd. The session started with Prof. Shyam Ji Mehrotra highlighting the theme for the session wherein he talked about the need of digitisation in banking industry. He pointed out that cash transactions have changed to card based transactions and the legal status to Adhaar is expected to bring about a paradigm shift in the payment culture but at the same time, cyber security is a major issue that has cropped up in recent times.
Moving on with the session, in his address, Mr. Nayagam highlighted for the audience that digitisation has pushed the need of physical banks and paper money into the dustbin of oblivion. He said that though payment is being done through mobile wallets but in order to ensure security, commerce through bank is more feasible. According to him, the future of banking system lies in tracking the customer’s transaction pattern and in getting a holistic view of all his earnings and expenditure.
In continuum, the second theme speaker Mr. Dixit talked about the information security of banking industry and its threats and countermeasures. He focused on phishing attack, skimmers and Keyloggers and suggested various precautions to escape it.
Proceeding with the session, the last theme speaker, Mr. Amar Habibullah shared with the audience the credit which should be given to digital banking for bringing customers closer to their money. He opined that the next step will be the integration of all banking services and bringing them onto one platform. He said that we have a long road ahead as still a miniscule number of people are doing electronic transactions.
The session concluded with the guests being presented mementos as a token of the institute’s gratitude and by the summing up of the session by Prof. Mehrotra wherein he highlighted how the implementation of digital banking has changed the customer’s experience and the future path of financial planning. He stressed that technology will play a bigger role in business in the days to come and highlighted the role that will be played by the customers in driving technological innovations.
The theme for the second technical session was “Role of Technology in Offering New Business Opportunities". Mr. Naveen Luthra, Vice President, Group Strategic Alliances, askme.com and Mr. Kiron Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, CR Rubber Products Ltd. RBI, Lucknow were the esteemed speakers for the session.
The importance of technology is very well brought out by the words of Freemon Dyson when he said "Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life, it is perhaps the greatest of god’s gifts. It is the mother of civilizations of arts and of sciences." Highlighting the importance of technology the theme was introduced by Prof. Masood Siddiqui. He stated that technology in business is a growing necessity. “Innovation Breeds Business”, saying this he threw light on how globalization has fetched success to businesses by helping in implementation of various and countless evolutions in technology.
The first speaker, Mr. Naveen Luthra, commenced his discussion on the success of technology and how it has interwoven with most of the lives, today. He demonstrated some facts about cross-device purchasing indicating how personal computers and mobiles phones are becoming the new shopping centres. Talking about Internet of Things, i.e., a network of machines, software and hardware etc., he suggested that there would be a time very soon when machines would interact with each other, take care of human beings and would require none or least human intervention. He concluded by saying that technology has become an embedded part of our lives and that is where new opportunities are born for the new generation.
Proceeding with the session the second speaker Mr. Kiron Chopra shared his views by sensitising the audience to what he called, the ‘Age of Digital Conversion.’ He compared the modern world technologies with some older ones like those of photography, sending and receiving messages etc., he highlighted the advancements in technology that have provided a fast growing performance in all processes. He concluded by saying that though there are pros and cons of technology, its use should be made judiciously.
The session concluded with questions by the audience which were answered by the guests on the Dias. Some of the interesting questions included what would the future be in the world of manufacturing units with the increasing use robotics, what about the workers on the assembly lines who would rather not like to change with technology, is the technology helping satisfy a human need or is it playing with it and is it a kind of a corporate strategy, etc.
To conclude the first day of the conference, Prof. Siddiqui highlighting the key points summed up the second technical session and proposed the vote of thanks. The guests were then presented a memento by him.

On 4th February 2016, Marketing club of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow organised an open house on Digital Marketing Certification for the batch of 2015-17. The Guest for the event Mr. Aniket Singh, Founder, Head Trainer at Digitrend was welcomed by the Senior Coordinator, Shivandra Shrimukh.
The session started with the introduction of importance of digital marketing in present scenario. Delving deeper on the topic Mr. Singh said that digital marketing is a rapidly growing force in the current marketing field and is set to replace more traditional forms altogether. It is so because the methods of communication and marketing are faster, more versatile, practical and streamlined and hence results in better results. It is infinitely more affordable than traditional offline marketing methods. The results can be tracked and monitored resulting in analysis of success rate of the marketing campaign in real time.
Google AdWords is an online advertising service that enables advertisers to compete to display brief advertising copy to web users, based in part on keywords, predefined by the advertisers that might link the copy to the content of web pages shown to users. It includes both ‘Pay per Click’ and ‘Cost per Click’ options of bidding for the advertisers.
On Career prospects in digital marketing Mr. Singh said that there is a plethora of opportunities available both in job and entrepreneurship front. One can go in venture of making e books and selling them on kindle, blogging and adsense, e-commerce and private ad sales. High growth prospecting jobs are available in Google AdWords vendors like Accenture, Digital marketing agency like Digitrend, InHouse start-up companies and App Based Marketing. The session ended with a questions- answers round where students cleared their doubts and gained insights on the topic of Digital Marketing.

"Creativity is intelligence having fun" - Albert Einstein
On January 29, 2016 ,Jaipuria Institute of Management , Lucknow organised a “ Creativity Workshop” for all those young entrepreneurial minds who see things through a different prism. The activity was organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.
“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming , we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming ,after all, is a form of planning”
The activity gave a chance to students to think out of the box and gave a chance to the young minds to transform their ideas into a reality .Twenty nine teams participated in the event. A number of faculty members including Prof. Jatin Srivastava ,Prof. Reena Agarwal, Prof .Vinod Kumar, Prof. Shyam Ji Mehrotra ,Prof. Hemendra Gupta, Prof. Manisha Seth, Prof. Mahima Sharma and Prof. Sunil Gupta were present to motivate the participating teams.
The students were given waste and discarded material and were asked to create something useful and valuable out of it by exploring the creative genius within them.
The rules were set beforehand: the time given to each team was 1 hour 30 minutes to finalise its product. Negative marks were given to the teams left with any unused materials. The air was abuzz with excitement and fervour as the activity commenced. All teams performed to the best of their abilities. The result is still awaited.
