On the occasion of World Quantum Day (April 14), the Faculty of Physical Sciences (FoPS) celebrates the profound impact of quantum theory on science and technology.

The date 4/14 symbolically reflects Planck’s constant (4.14 × 10⁻¹⁵ eV·s)—a fundamental quantity that marked the beginning of quantum mechanics and transformed our understanding of nature at its most fundamental level.

From explaining atomic structure to enabling modern technologies such as semiconductors, lasers, and emerging quantum computing systems, quantum physics continues to shape the scientific and technological landscape of the 21st century.

At FoPS, we remain committed to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary exploration in frontier areas like quantum science. Through teaching, research, and outreach, we aim to inspire the next generation of scientists to engage with the fascinating and non-intuitive world of quantum phenomena.

Let us take this day as an opportunity to reflect on how a single idea—the quantization of energy—redefined reality and continues to drive innovation.
