The Bathkhande University of Indian Music Society was registered under Societies Registration Act XX The Vidyapith is an affiliating and examining body.

In 1926, with a view to provide standardized music education and to maintain the high traditions of Indian music, an institution was established by the great efforts of Pandit Vishnu Narain Bhatkhande and Rai Uma Nath Bali at Lucknow.
