**Geological Excursion 2026 | Chitrakoot–Satna (M.P.) and Adjoining Terrains**
The Department of Geology, BSNVPG College, Lucknow, successfully conducted a geological field excursion from 6th to 10th April 2026 for the students of B.Sc. IV and VI Semesters. The excursion was carried out under the supervision of the Head of Department, Vaibhav Singh, along with Abhishek Shukla.
The field study covered the Vindhyan Basin and its adjoining regions, including Chitrakoot, Satna (Madhya Pradesh), and Banda (Uttar Pradesh). During the excursion, students examined contrasting geological terrains, including the Basement Archean Bundelkhand Granite and the Lower and Upper Vindhyan sequences (Semri and Kaimur Groups). They observed lithological variations, geological contacts, and significant tectonic, igneous, and sedimentary features characteristic of the Vindhyan region.
Students also analyzed structural features such as different types of faults, joint patterns, and shear zones. The fieldwork included identification of various igneous rocks (Granite and Dolerite) and sedimentary rocks, including Tirohan Dolomite, glauconitic sandstone, glauconitic limestone, oolitic limestone, pelletal limestone, arkose, and Kaimur Sandstone and students also studied various sedimentary Structures such as Ripple marks cross bedding (Tangential, trough), herringbone and various types of Stromatolites.
At the Ganga River and Yamuna River, students studied fluvial geomorphology, including river terraces, channel patterns, and both erosional and depositional features such as point bars, braided bars, and lateral bars, along with sediment characteristics.
This excursion significantly enhanced students’ skills in lithological identification, interpretation of tectonic deformation, understanding of Vindhyan basin evolution, field documentation, teamwork, and scientific observation—effectively bridging classroom knowledge with real-world geological practice.
