Stop turning playtime into a quiz.
Want to boost your child’s speech naturally?
Start by following what they enjoy.
Jump into their world—cars, dolls, snacks, anything they’re excited about.
When kids are engaged, they’re much more likely to talk and express themselves.
Let go of the pressure.
Instead of constant questioning, gently model simple words during play together.
📌 Save this for your next play session

We’ve all faced it —
the “no,” the “not now,” or the complete shutdown.
And most of us were taught one thing:
👉 Be more firm.
But here’s the truth…
For an autistic child, firmness doesn’t feel like guidance —
it feels like more pressure on an already overwhelmed nervous system.
As an autistic teacher, I’ve learned something powerful:
When we stop battling the behaviour and start supporting the nervous system,
what looks like “defiance”… begins to fade.
Because the goal isn’t obedience.
It’s a child who feels safe, regulated, and connected.
👉 Want real change? Start there.

✨ Sensory Saturday ✨
I’m starting a new series where I’ll explore different sensory systems and share simple tips parents can use to support their toddler during meltdowns.
Proprioceptive input is something every parent should know about—it can act like a built-in calm button for your little one 🥰
Deep pressure helps regulate the nervous system when a child feels overwhelmed. These are some of the strategies I use as a pediatric OT and a mom.
❤️ Save this post for the next time your toddler is having a tough moment.
Which strategy works best for your toddler? Which one doesn’t help much? Share in the comments! 😊

Many parents feel puzzled or concerned when their child repeats words or questions. While it may seem like mere copying, for many autistic children, this repetition is a natural and meaningful way to process language.
Echolalia can be the brain’s tool for digesting and practicing language. When creating original sentences is tricky, children may echo phrases they’ve heard before. These repeated words can carry intention, express feelings, or help organize thoughts.
Instead of immediately trying to stop echolalia, it’s more helpful to tune in to what your child is communicating. With gentle guidance, language modelling, and structured interaction, these echoes can gradually evolve into independent speech and purposeful conversation.
Every child’s communication path is unique. With patience and support, echolalia can become a bridge to stronger language skills.
💛 If your child often repeats words or struggles to communicate, early understanding and responsive support can make a real difference.
