India lifted its second football crown of the year, as it regained the Intercontinental Cup, taming a young Lebanon side by two second-half goals at the Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday. Earlier in March, Chhetri's men had won a tri-nation tournament, also involving Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan.

India had won the inaugural tournament in 2018 before DPR Korea bagged the crown in 2019. Captain Sunil Chhetri and Lallianzuala Chhangte found a goal each in the first quarter of the second s half to send a 12,600- strong crowd into wild celebrations.

THE GIST

The Union Government imposed limits on stock of wheat that can be held by traders, wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers and processors. The motive is to stabilise the price of the essential commodity by steadying supply.

Traders/wholesalers can hold 3,000 metric tonnes. Retailers and big chain retailers can hold up to 10 metric tonnes at each of their outlets and the latter can hold up to 3,000 metric tonnes at all their depots combined.

The Agricultural Ministry estimates the production of wheat at a record 1,127.43 lakh metric tonnes for the agriculture year 2022-23.

THE GIST

The Centre's Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee is set to test a new kind of transgenic cotton seed that contains a gene, Cry2Ai which makes cotton resistant to pink bollworm.

The cotton seed has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bioseed Research India and the seed has passed preliminary, confined trials and was recommended by the GEAC to be tested in farmer's fields.
Of the four States the GEACTED gave approval for, only Haryana gave permission for the tests. Gujarat, Telangana, and Maharashtra refused to give permission without stating the reasons.

Even as Cyclone Biparjoy has further weakened to very severe cyclonic storm over the northeast Arabian Sea, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an Red alert as cyclone warning for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts. Moving north-northeastwards with a speed of 5 km per hour, Cyclone Biparjoy at 2.30 am lay centred at 90 km southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 300 km west-southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 310 km west-southwest of Naliya, 350 km west of Porbandar, and 370 km south-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan). The cyclone is expected to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by Thursday evening of as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 km per hour gusting to 150 km per hour.
