A letter from a Maharashtrian

I am not a Tamilian. I am a Maharashtrian from Maharashtra. My mother tongue is Marathi. And I am seeing what my mother tongue has to suffer in my own state because of us accepting Hindi.
Uncontrolled migration on a large scale is happening even now, mainly from the North. And none of them learn Marathi. They want us to leave our language and speak Hindi for their convenience. Unfortumately since Hindi was accepted in Maharashtra, our people did start speaking Hindi with them. And now, Hindi is on the verge of becoming the Lingua Franca of our capital, Mumbai. The cancer is now spreading to other major cities of Maharashtra.
You see, under the garb of nationalism & religion, Hindi is silenetly being imposed. In local train stations, I have seen a lot of north Indian employees having been placed. They don't even try to learn the local language. They speak in Hindi. In few cases these people have the audacity to tell us not to speak in Marathi since they don't know it.
Bollywood became popular in Maharashtra just because Hindi was accepted here. Logically, Hindi film industry should be located somewhere in a Hindi speaking state. Now bollywood has become so big that our native Marathi industry is struggling, ispite of making really good quality movies unlike the bollywood trash which survives only on glamour and vulgarity. Believe me, you won't understand it unless you experience it.
