A MOSFET gate should never be left floating. ⚡
A 10kΩ pull-down resistor gives the gate a defined LOW state during reset, startup, or when the MCU output is disconnected.
In this example:
5V / 10kΩ = 0.5mA
Simple component. Important job.
It helps prevent unwanted MOSFET switching and keeps the circuit behavior predictable.

A fast current spike can pull an MCU’s supply voltage down in an instant. ⚡
A local decoupling capacitor supplies charge right where the MCU needs it.
In this example:
Minimum calculated capacitance = 8nF
Practical choice = 100nF
That’s why a 100nF ceramic capacitor close to the VCC pin is such a common design choice.
Small capacitor. Big difference in supply stability.
