The L&D page is a beautiful space for reading and writing—and little else. The words are central.

The Literary & Debating Club of NIT Calicut (National Institute of Technology Calicut) is one of the oldest and the most prestigious clubs of NIT-C. Ever since its birth in the REC times, the club has taken up mantle of providing the students a rostrum to flaunt their belletristic, oratory and expressive genius. Organizing competitions in extempore, elocution, debates, quizzes and so much has helped the club live up to and beyond the expectations for which it was set up.

*Trigger Warning:* Themes of su***de and self-harm. Reader discretion is advised.

Behind every tragic headline is the story of a life quietly cut short long before its bloom. A room left untouched, questions that never find answers, and people learning to sit with a void that never quite fills. Every loss serves as a bleak reminder of the painful battles fought in the dark, the dreams that were silently surrendered, and the heartbroken families left to carry the weight of the aftermath.

There exists a quiet ache in being a choice yet never actually chosen, in being present yet never fully seen. Your heart craves grand things, but the whispers in the back of your mind paralyze you, leaving what you long for just out of reach. Bound by your lack of self-worth, a single rejection easily adds on to the weight of despair that drags you beneath the crushing waves of life. But what if everything that seemingly plotted to hold you down conjured the strength needed to break free and soar?

What begins as sacrifice for loved ones slowly morphs into isolation. A cruel contrast to the warmth of high-pitched voices that once filled the halls without end. Behind emotionally numb faces lie years of loneliness and buried emotions that are seldom spoken about. Yet they carry on, hoping that one day their silence will be understood.

Time has a quiet way of eroding the bonds we once held close. We grow apart, priorities change, and before we know it, life has shaped us into different people. People we knew closely have now become strangers. We could be seated right across the table from them and still be worlds apart. The separation would be gradual yet inevitable.
Is there a way back to the good old times? Back before the endless, meaningless chatter finally ran dry?

For some people, the mind learns to cope in ways others can never fully understand. What looks confusing or unpredictable from the outside can feel overwhelming or isolating on the inside. The condition never manifests out of nowhere; it forms from trials the mind was never meant to endure. The hardest part is often the stigma and misunderstanding around it, but healing takes time, and compassion can make even the heaviest burdens feel a little lighter.

Swiping on our phones for hours and hours ought to feel exhausting, doesn't it? Yet we keep going, trapped in a loop designed to keep us endlessly yearning for the next high. As the digital era has completely rewritten the rules of the game, we’re forced to fight algorithms devised to keep us hooked yet perpetually dissatisfied.

To help us understand these challenges and successfully navigate the road ahead, we are joined by Dr. Anju Tresa Andrews. An expert in psychotherapy support for various kinds of mental health issues, she'll be guiding us through the diverse obstacles we face in today's day and age.

Kaapikootam is back!

Calling everyone who's ready to talk, rant and sip some coffee!

The Literary and Debating Club warmly invites you to Kaapikootam, a space where we serve hot kaapi and even hotter takes.

From debating whether Vedan should've been invited to Ragam, to questioning hostel curfews and unpacking whether "Dhurandhar" is just propaganda; nothing is off the table.

So come join us at the Amphitheatre tomorrow (7th April), at 5:30 p.m. Don't forget to bring your friends and curiosity, or just drop in, listen, and enjoy a free cup of coffee.

As the pattern repeats itself, the same faces, the familiar sequence of moments, it begins to feel like you’re caught in a loop. It feels like a life you’ve lived before. But is that really the case?
