Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry This is the official page of the Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry. The Postgraduate and Research department of Botany, St. K. V. N. P.

Thomas College Kozhencherry started in 1958 with the inception of degree courses under the leadership of Prof. George the department was elevated to the status of Post Graduate Department in 1984. In 2002 the Department became an approved Research Centre affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The Department offers Under Graduate programme in Botany based on CBCSS syllabus. The Post Gr

aduate programme offered by the department is based on CSS syllabus with Biotechnology as specialization. The department offers Interdisciplinary or open course on Agri-based microenterprises. Short term courses offered by the department includes Tissue Culture for PG students and Mushroom cultivation for UG students. The growth of the department is the result of the brainstorming efforts of former Heads Prof. George, Prof. Philip, Prof. C. John Thomas, Prof Becky Thomas, Prof. G. Varghese, Dr. K. Danielkutty, Dr. Annie J Mathew and Dr. Elizabeth Thomas and the baton has been handed over to Dr. Leena Abraham- the current Head of the Department. The torchbearers of the department were lucky enough to have a set of brilliant teachers by their sides – Prof. Sunny Thomas, Prof. Abraham, Dr. Abraham Mathew, Dr. K. Mary Varghese, Prof. Achamma Kurien, Dr. Thomas P. Thomas, Dr. Thomas John and Dr. Jasy Thomas. The current faculty Dr. Anju V. Jalaj, Ms. Adheena Elza Johns, Dr. Lini K. The alumni members of the department periodically gather under the branches of FICUS-the alumni association of Botany department. It was a proud moment for the department to be able to conduct a grand Alumni Meet on 2nd October 2019 as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration. This page is to ensure connectivity between the students of the department both past and the present, to cherish the long-lost memories, to ensure your love for plants never fades, to update the activities of the department, and more importantly to develop a scientific temper among botany students.
