Interesting Facts about Republic Day ⬇️
- The first Republic day parade was held in 1950.
- It took place at the Irwin Amphitheater (now Major Dhyan Chand Stadium).
- Three thousand Indian military personnel and over 100 aircraft participated in the parade.
- In the first four years, the venues of these marches were Irwin Stadium, Red Fort, and Ramlila Grounds.
- The first parade at Rajpath was organised in 1955. Pakistan’s Governor General Malik Ghulam Muhammad attended the event as chief guest.
- It was the first of the only two times that a Pakistani leader was given the honour.

Jhalkaribai was a woman soldier who played an important role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
She served in the women's army of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and eventually rose to a position of a prominent advisor to the queen, Rani of Jhansi herself.
At the height of the Siege of Jhansi, she disguised herself as the Queen and fought on her behalf, on the front, allowing the Queen to escape safely out of the fort.
Legacy
- The image of Jhalakaribai has gained prominence in North India in the recent years.
- The death anniversary of Jhalkaribai is also celebrated as Shahid Diwas (Martyr Day) by various Koli organisations.
- The movement to establish Bundelkhand as a separate state has also used the legend of Jhalkaribai to create the Bundeli identity.
- The Government of India's Post and Telegraph department has issued a postal stamp depicting Jhalkaribai.

Homi Jehangir Bhabha was a multifaceted personality, a scientist, visionary and institution builder.
He was an Indian physicist who is considered the 'Father of the Indian Nuclear Program'.
He was born on October 30, 1909 in an illustrious family with a long tradition of learning and service to the country.

- In 1939, he came to India only for a brief holiday but was unable to go back to complete his research at Cambridge as World War II had started.
- Therefore, he joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, as a reader.
- As a student, Homi worked with a Nobel Prize winner, Niels Bohr in Copenhagen and played a major role in the development of The Quantum Theory.
- He was the one who identified and named the Meson particle.
- He also worked with one of the German Physicists to develop the Cascade theory to understand cosmic radiations.
- He was the 1st chairman of the first United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy held in 1955.
He was also the founding director of two institutions Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, both of which led to immense growth and development in the field of research.
Honorary Achievements
- In 1954, he was conferred with Padma Bhushan award for outstanding contributions to nuclear science.
- He also won the Adams Prize in 1942 and was honoured with Fellow of the Royal Society.

The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) has yet again cleared the proposal for commercial cultivation of genetically modified (GM) mustard.
This will be the second GM crop after GM cotton that can be commercially cultivated in the country now.
