Cybercrime cost the South African economy an estimated $573 million. For the Nigerian economy the cost was estimated to be $500 million, and for the Kenyan economy, $36 million. Another study showed that financial institutions in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia had sustained losses of $245 million, attributable to Cyber crimes. South Africa (80 percent) has the third highest number of cybercrime victims in the world, after Russia (92 percent) and China (84 percent).

These statistics summarise a stark contradiction in the world of cyber attacks. Emerging economies are fast becoming the easy prey and premise of staging cyber crimes. We have presented our perspectives on this enigmatic economy plaguing African continent in our session on Cybersecurity organised by Transdisciplinary Agora for Future Discussions Inc. ( TAFFD's ). It was an honour to represent RedTeam Hacker Academy Pvt. Ltd. EPIC Knowledge Society and BeyondIdentity in this pioneering program for the engineers and educators of Nigeria.
