1987 ൽ യുണൈറ്റഡ് നേഷൻ ആണ് ജൂൺ 26 അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ ദിനമായി ആചരിക്കാൻ നിർദേശിച്ചത്. ലഹരിയുടെ സ്വാധീനം എത്രത്തോളം വ്യക്തികളെയും സമൂഹത്തെയും ബാധിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ലോകത്തെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഈ ദിവസം സഹായിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ലഹരിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് 'ബോധവൽക്കരണം, പ്രതിരോധം, പുനരധിവാസം എന്നീ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഈ ദിവസം നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്.

Alcohol/drug/substance abuse is becoming an increasing menace in our society. Vimukthi is an anti-narcotics campaign launched by the Government of Kerala to highlight the seriousness of the situation and to create awareness among the people, especially the youth. It is a collective effort aims at eradicating all sorts of narcotic substances from Kerala.
