Sikkimโ€™s Teesta River Basin faces earthquakes, landslides and glacial lake outburst floods, as the 2023 GLOF so starkly reminded us. This study follows communities in Mangan and Gangtok districts over five years to understand how risk, policy and resilience actually evolve on the ground.

The project is led by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita Center for Wireless Networks & Applications) in collaboration with the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), IIT Roorkee and Sikkim University. It spans six pillars: policy analysis, multi-hazard tracking, vulnerability and dynamic risk mapping, real-time risk communication, resilient infrastructure, and policy synthesis.

What makes it different is the โ€œlongitudinalโ€ part: annual household surveys, focus groups and stakeholder workshops repeated year after year, so we can track change, not just snapshots.

Sharing our project pamphlet below. We look forward to working closely with SSDMA, district administrations, local communities and civil society in Sikkim over the coming years.

World Humanitarian Day | 19 August 2026

Humanitarian work is the practical application of this lesson. It is not just about sympathy; it is about showing up when disaster strikes.

Real impact happens when global support meets local action on the ground. We build a stronger world through four practical steps:

* Care: Delivering immediate, tangible relief.
* Solidarity: Standing with affected families.
* Empowerment: Providing resources for long-term recovery.
* Resilience: Rebuilding infrastructure and lives.

Compassion is not just a feeling. It is an action.

Congratulations, Dr. Jayakrishnan V M !

Jayakrishnan V M Earns Ph.D. for Research on Metamaterial-Enhanced S-Band Tracking Antennas

Thesis Title: Design and Development of Metamaterial Enhanced Microstrip Antennas Integrated with a Monopulse Comparator

This work presents an integrated system comprising a metamaterial antenna and a monopulse comparator, specifically engineered and validated for S-band tracking applications. The monopulse comparator, combined with the metamaterial antennas, incorporates a novel geometry and design, offering a cost-effective solution for both indoor and outdoor tracking applications.

Dr. Jayakrishnan V M's Ph.D. journey was guided by the late Dr. Dhanesh G. Kurup, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru Campus - a mentorship that shaped this remarkable contribution to antenna research.

He is currently advancing the frontiers of RF technology at the RF and Antenna R&D Group, Astra Microwave Products Limited, Hyderabad.

Today's convocation feels a little different โ€” a little more special.

Fifteen years ago, a small group of students became the very first batch to graduate from AmritaWNA. They didn't know exactly what lay ahead, but they showed up, believed in something new, and walked out as pioneers. Every batch since then has followed the path they quietly laid down.

Cheers to that first batch โ€” for your faith, your hard work, and for giving this program its heart.
