Paramahamsa Tewari was born on June 1, 1937, and graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1958 from Banaras Engineering College, India, and held responsible positions in large engineering construction organizations, mostly in nuclear projects of the Department of Atomic Energy, India. He was also deputed abroad for a year at Douglas Point Nuclear Project, Canada. He is presently the retired Executive Nuclear Director, Nuclear Power Corporation, Department of Atomic Energy, India, and is the former Project Director of the Kaiga Atomic Power Project.
Over the last four decades his new ideas on the basic nature of space, energy, and matter have solidified into definite shape from which a new theory (Space Vortex Theory) has emerged. The theory reveals the most basic issue of relationship between space and matter precisely pinpointing that space is a more fundamental entity than matter.
The books that he has authored on Space Vortex Theory are:
1) The Substantial Space and Void Nature of Elementary Material Particles (1977)
2) Space Vortices of Energy and Matter (1978)

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയില്‍ കോതമംഗലം താലൂക്കിലാണ് നേര്യമംഗലം എന്ന മലയോരഗ്രാമം. പെരിയാറിന്റെ തീരത്തുള്ള ഈ പ്രദേശത്താണ് കേരളത്തില്‍ ഏറ്റവുമധികം മഴലഭിക്കുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ‘കേരളത്തിലെ ചിറാപുഞ്ചി’ എന്നൊരു ഓമനപ്പേരും നേര്യമംഗലത്തിനുണ്ട്. ഇവിടെയാണ് കേരളത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ ജലവൈദ്യുതപദ്ധതി സ്ഥാപിതമായത്.

മൂന്നാം പഞ്ചവത്സരപദ്ധതിക്കാലത്ത് 1961 ലാണ് നേര്യമംഗലം (പനങ്കുട്ടി) പദ്ധതിയുടെ ആദ്യഘട്ടം പ്രവര്‍ത്തനമാരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. 15 മെഗാവാട്ടിന്റെ രണ്ടു ജനറേറ്ററുകളായിരുന്നു തുടക്കത്തില്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് രണ്ടു ജനറേറ്റിംഗ് യൂണിറ്റുകള്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്ത് ശേഷി വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു. 2008 ലാണ് നാലാമത്തെ യൂണിറ്റ് പ്രവര്‍ത്തനമാരംഭിച്ചത്. ഈ പദ്ധതിക്ക് ഇപ്പോൾ 77.65 മെഗാവാട്ട് ശേഷിയാണുള്ളത്.
കല്ലാറും മുതിരപ്പുഴയും കൂടിച്ചേരുന്ന കല്ലാര്‍കുട്ടിയിലെ അണക്കെട്ടും അനുബന്ധജലാശയവുമാണ് നേര്യമംഗലം പദ്ധതിയിലേക്ക് ജലമെത്തിക്കുന്നത്. ജലാശയത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ഏതാണ്ട് മൂന്നര കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ നീളമുള്ള തുരങ്കത്തിലൂടെ ജലം പ്രവഹിക്കുന്നു. ഒത്ത വലിപ്പമുള്ള ഒരാനയ്ക്കുവരെ കടന്നുപോകാവുന്നത്ര വലിപ്പമുണ്ട് ഈ തുരങ്കത്തിന്. 3.96 മീറ്ററാണ് ഇതിന്റെ വ്യാസം. തുരങ്കത്തിനു ശേഷം പെന്‍സ്റ്റോക്ക് പൈപ്പുകളിലൂടെ ജലം പവര്‍ഹൗസിലെ ടര്‍ബൈനുകളിലേക്ക് പ്രവഹിക്കുന്നു.

Neriamangalam is a village in Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district. This mountainous village that lies on the banks of the river Periyar is known as the chirapunji of Kerala, since it receives the maximum rainfall in the State. It was in Neriamangalam that the third hydro electric project of Kerala was set up.
The first phase of Neriamangalam (Panankutti) was started in 1961, during the third Plan period. Initiallym, it had two generators with a capacity of 15 MW each. Later, two more generators were added. The fourth unit had started functioning in 2008. Currently, Neriamangalam project has an installed capacity of 77.65 MW.
It is the water from the Kallarkutty reservoir that is used for generation here. Water from the reservoir flows to the penstocks through a 3.46 km long tunnel, which has a diameter of 3.96 metres. In simple terms, this tunnel is tall and wide enough to let a full grown elephant walk through with ease..
