Powering the future of intelligent energy systems through AI-driven innovation
Researchers from the Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri have published their research titled “A Hybrid PPO–PSO Reinforcement Learning Framework for Adaptive Demand-Side Energy Management” in Discover Artificial Intelligence (Springer) — a Q1 journal with a CiteScore of 6.
The work proposes a hybrid AI framework integrating deep learning, reinforcement learning, and physics-informed neural networks to improve adaptive demand-side management in smart energy systems. Using a Hybrid PPO–PSO optimization model, the study demonstrated:
⚡ Up to 27.1% peak load reduction
💡 18.9% energy cost savings
📈 40–50% faster convergence
🌱 Improved grid stability and sustainable energy management
The framework was validated across residential, commercial, and industrial energy optimization scenarios, highlighting the potential of AI-powered solutions in building reliable and low-carbon smart grids.

Pushing the boundaries of AI-powered perception systems for autonomous driving, researchers from the Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri have published their latest findings in IEEE Access.
The paper, “Hierarchical Semantic Segmentation for Autonomous Driving in Unstructured Traffic,” addresses the complexities of Indian traffic scenarios characterized by uncertain road boundaries, dense traffic movement, and extensive occlusions.
Key highlights of the work include:
✔ Improved Level-2 mIoU through hierarchical cascaded segmentation
✔ Introduction of a Scene Complexity Index (SCI) for traffic scene evaluation
✔ SegFormer-Lite for efficient and real-time deployment with reduced model parameters
This research marks an important step toward building scalable and robust autonomous driving systems for real-world environments.

The Industry Expert Talk on “Defending Systems from Browser to Network Perimeter” was successfully conducted for the S6 CSE students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as part of the Foundations of Cyber Security course.
The session, delivered by Rahul PK, NetSPI , offered students valuable exposure to real-world cybersecurity practices, covering browser security, web application defense, network protection mechanisms, and enterprise perimeter security. The interactive session was highly engaging and well received by the students, providing meaningful industry insights and practical perspectives on modern cyber defense strategies.
Organized by the AI and Distributed Systems TAG of Amrita School of Computing in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Capacity Building (CB) Programme, the event aimed to bridge academic learning with contemporary industry expertise and evolving cybersecurity challenges.
The session served as an enriching platform for students to understand real-world deployment methodologies, security architectures, and emerging practices in distributed environments.

We are proud to share that KK Surendran and Hridesh MG MG from the Amrita School of Computing were selected to attend the prestigious Y Combinator Startup School event held in Bengaluru.
This exclusive gathering brought together nearly 2000 handpicked builders, founders, CEOs, and professionals from across India to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and meaningful networking opportunities. Notably, this marks the first time Startup School was conducted in India.
As part of the program, both students were awarded AI cloud credits worth ₹23 lakhs each (AWS/Azure credits) to support the development and scaling of innovative product ideas.
