Giving Low-Resource Languages a Stronger Voice

Language is more than words. It carries identity, culture, context, and connection. Yet, in the world of artificial intelligence, not every language receives the same attention.

For Dr. Thara S., this gap became the starting point for a doctoral journey focused on making language technologies more inclusive.

The Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri, proudly celebrates Dr. Thara S., Assistant Professor (Sr. Grd.), on the successful completion of her doctoral studies.

Her PhD research, “Language Augmentation and Leveraging Linguistic Features to Enhance Code-Mixed Text Processing in Low-Resource Languages,” explores ways to strengthen language processing for low-resource languages, particularly in the increasingly common world of code-mixed communication.

Her work brings together language augmentation and linguistic knowledge to address challenges in processing languages and language combinations that are often underrepresented in computational systems.

During her doctoral journey, her research resulted in 2 journal publications and 1 conference publication, adding valuable scholarly contributions to the field of natural language processing.

The journey was guided by Dr. Prabaharan Poornachandran, Director, Centre for Internet Studies and Artificial Intelligence (CISAI), Amritapuri.

When Data Meets Mechanics: The Doctoral Journey of Dr. Vishnu Mohan M. S.

What happens when the power of deep learning meets the complexity of applied mechanics?

For Dr. Vishnu Mohan M. S., this question became the foundation of a doctoral journey that brought together data, computation, and engineering to explore new possibilities in applied mechanics.

The Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri, proudly celebrates Dr. Vishnu Mohan M. S. on the successful completion of his doctoral studies.

Vishnu’s thesis addresses applications of deep learning in two related but distinct problem domains: digital photoelasticity (experimental stress analysis) and computational fluid dynamics. The unifying thread in his thesis is the use of data-driven models to overcome bottlenecks in acquisition, reconstruction, and interpretation that conventional experimental, numerical and image-processing pipelines struggle with.

And the impact of this journey extends well beyond the thesis.

His doctoral research has resulted in 3 Q1 journal publications, 1 conference publication, and 4 associated Indian patent filings — reflecting a research journey that moved from ideas and experimentation towards scholarly contributions and innovation.

This journey was shaped by the guidance of Dr. Vivek Menon, Professor & Research Head, Amrita School of Computing, and Dr. Hariprasad M P, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus.

From exploring the possibilities of deep learning to translating research into publications and intellectual property, Vishnu’s doctoral journey is a testament to how interdisciplinary research can open new pathways for innovation.

Congratulations, Dr. Vishnu Mohan M. S., on this remarkable achievement!

As one chapter closes, may the questions that began this journey lead to many more discoveries, innovations, and contributions in the years ahead.

Every PhD is more than a thesis. It is a journey of questions, experiments, setbacks, discoveries, mentorship, and countless moments of perseverance that eventually culminate in two letters that carry years of effort — Dr

Today, we celebrate Dr. Sarath S. on the successful completion of his doctoral journey at Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri.

His research journey explored the fascinating intersection of *thermal imaging and generative AI, culminating in his PhD thesis, “Thermal Image Synthesis and Refinement through Generative Models with Mixed-Pixel Analysis and Correction.” His work advances intelligent thermal image synthesis and addresses the challenges of mixed-pixel analysis and correction, contributing to improved thermal image quality.

A significant part of this journey was shaped by mentorship that evolved alongside his research.

Dr. Sarath began his doctoral journey under the guidance of *Dr. Jyothisha J. Nair, Professor and Head, School of Computer Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University. When Dr. Jyothisha moved to MG University, **Dr. Sunitha E. V.*, Associate Professor, School of Computing, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, took over as his guide, while Dr. Jyothisha continued to be part of his journey as Co-Guide.

Together, this mentorship provided continuity, perspective, and encouragement as Sarath navigated the many stages of doctoral research.

The journey also found expression beyond the thesis, with 2 journal publications and 3 conference publications contributing to his scholarly record during his PhD.

From the first research question to the final thesis submission, from experiments to publications, and from being a research scholar to becoming *Dr. Sarath S.* — this has been a journey worth remembering.

Making AI See Beyond the Diagnosis

A diagnosis is more than a label. In healthcare, understanding what is happening is only part of the challenge — understanding why and how severely can be equally important.

For Dr Anjali Tachangattil , this challenge became the focus of her doctoral journey.

The Amrita School of Computing, Amritapuri, proudly celebrates Dr Anjali Tachangattil . on the successful completion of her Ph.D.

Her research, “A Multimodal and Explainable Framework for Hierarchical Dermatological Diagnosis and Severity Scoring,” brings together artificial intelligence, multimodal learning, and explainability to develop intelligent approaches for dermatological diagnosis and severity assessment.

At the heart of her work lies an important idea: AI in healthcare should not only make predictions — it should also help us understand them.

Her doctoral journey has resulted in 3 journal publications, 3 conference publications, and 1 patent filing, marking a journey that has translated research ideas into scholarly contributions and innovation.

We also extend our appreciation to Dr. Remya S., whose guidance and mentorship accompanied Anjali throughout this doctoral journey.
