The Centre has decided to appoint Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)) . He is only the second person to hold the post after General Bipin Rawat, who died in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu on December 8, 2021. Lt General Anil Chauhan shall also function as Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Military Affairs, with effect from the date of his assumption of charge and until further orders.

This radar has the capability to detect avalanches within three seconds of their triggering and will assist in saving valuable life of troops and civilians as also vehicles in super high altitude areas. Besides being used for detection of avalanches, this radar can also be employed to detect landslides.
