The children explored mark-making on 3D structures made from recycled cardboard, using tripod crayons. They freely created lines, dots, and patterns, responding to the shapes and textures of their models. This open-ended activity encouraged creativity, choice, and self-expression, celebrating the beauty of reusing simple materials to inspire deep exploration.

In our Reggio Emilia classroom, we embrace the beauty of exploration, self-expression, and hands-on learning—so what better way to celebrate Holi than with a messy, joy-filled painting experience?

Holi, the festival of colors, is a perfect opportunity for children to engage in uninhibited creativity. With open-ended materials like vibrant paints, sponges, spray bottles, and their own little hands, the children immersed themselves in a sensory-rich environment, where process mattered more than the product. As colors mixed, splattered, and blended, so did ideas, laughter, and shared moments of wonder.

Messy painting is more than just fun—it supports cognitive development, fine motor skills, and social-emotional learning. In the spirit of Reggio Emilia, the children led their own artistic explorations, making choices, taking risks, and discovering how colors interact in the most unexpected ways.

Today, we didn’t just paint—we celebrated the joy of childhood, the beauty of togetherness, and the vibrant essence of Holi. Because sometimes, the messiest experiences are the most meaningful.

Educators from Arth had an incredible time at Healthy Planet for the Festival of Learning—a space where educators, school leaders, and changemakers came together to exchange ideas and best practices.

It was an enriching experience interacting with some of the most inspiring minds in education, including Dr. Swati Popat Vats, Dr. Haeny Yoon, and Dr. Tran Nguyen Templeton.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Arunabh Singh and The Healthy Planet family for hosting such a meaningful gathering. Grateful for the conversations, insights, and connections that will shape our journey ahead! ✨

In our Reggio-inspired classroom, we view storytelling as a powerful tool for learning, connection, and expression. Our pajama party with movie time wasn’t just about watching a film it was an opportunity for children to engage in visual storytelling, share emotions, and experience the joy of collective viewing.
Film, like any other medium, is a language that children use to make sense of the world. Through carefully selected movies, they explore emotions, relationships, and creativity. Watching together in a cozy and familiar environment fosters a sense of security, belonging, and shared joy.

In our classroom, this ball pool experience is more than just play—it’s a carefully designed space for sensory exploration and creative discovery. By interacting with felt toys, rattle balls, and balloons, children engage their senses, develop motor skills, and learn to communicate their ideas. This hands-on approach reflects the Reggio Emilia philosophy, where every moment is an opportunity to learn, explore, and express oneself in a supportive environment.

Work time in a Reggio-inspired classroom is a vital space for self-directed exploration, creativity, and problem-solving. It allows children to express themselves through multiple languages—art, movement, and storytelling—while strengthening fine motor skills and cognitive abilities. Open-ended materials and provocations foster curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration, nurturing social-emotional growth. Through hands-on experiences, toddlers develop independence, confidence, and a deeper connection to their learning journey.

When a child picks up a pencil, they aren’t just making marks on paper; they are making sense of their world. They are exploring control, cause and effect, and the joy of self-expression. They are learning that their thoughts matter, that their ideas can exist outside of themselves.

This moment is not about perfection or expectation. It’s about honoring the process—about trusting that before the written word, there is the felt experience. We don’t rush them to write; we invite them to express, to wonder, to create. Because within each tiny scribble lies the foundation of thought, identity, and creativity.

It was a day where everyone came together—mothers, children, and teachers—making memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for making this event so special and unforgettable. 🫶🤍⛹️

The Idea of ‘Arth’

Arth is founded on the idea that all children are born competent, capable and eager to learn and that all children can and must experience success in school. When the founders could not find a school they would be comfortable sending their kids to, they started one themselves.

We believe that children have a deep need to make sense of this world they grow up in, and hence the name, ‘arth.’

The school has been founded by Ankur, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus with a vision to create preschools where learning is a truly joyful endeavor and where children love to come. He worked as a teacher in a wonderful Reggio-inspired progressive preschool in New Delhi where he was mentored by educators who have taught in progressive schools across USA, UK, Canada, Japan and India. He researched and studied global best practices and curricula across the developed world and came up with a child-centered program for children between 18 months to 5 years of age fit for the Indian context. Thus was born Arth.
