Getting an interview is not getting a job. A Lot of students appear for interviews but do not get jobs. Inspite of that, some students strike it at the first kick.
What is the reason???
Interview is a very tricky process. A student must be groomed up prior to an interview. Success does not always depend only on knowledge and correct answers.
The interviewers mostly rate an interviewee, 40% on subject knowledge and 60% on skill relating to kinesis and style of communication.
A student’s appearance, mannerism, articulation and overall personality are the key factors to be successful. These are absolutely necessary to be equipped for an interview.
Interview is not only a verbal process but also non-verbal one. It is not only that your month speaks; but also the physical presence such as the eyes, eye brows, eye contact, posture of hands and your smile will represent your attitude and personality.
It is not only a place to showcase your knowledge but also to hide the weak looks and corner.
The students face difficulty in cases of structured interviews. They even do not know what to answer and how the interviewers shall perceive such answers.
It is a specific skill towards employability.
As an engineer in the private sector as President, as a professor in a reputed engineering college and also as a chief engineer in government sector, I had the opportunity of interviewing hundreds of students at the entry level.
A Lot of students and fresh engineers have been trained by me.
I suggest that students should have exposure to the interview process through short term training course on “How to Appear in an Interview”.
The training will increase their potentiality towards the success in interviews.
