🔁 Recap Part 5: Plassey opened the door for political control.
🔥 Part 6: Buxar handed over the wealth of India.
Series Historical Background of Indian Polity

The Battle of Buxar in 1764 was not just a military defeat —
it was the moment when India’s power shifted permanently to the British East India Company.

Three powerful rulers fought together:
• Mir Qasim — Bengal
• Shah Alam II — Mughal Emperor
• Shuja-ud-Daulah — Awadh

Yet all three lost to the Company.

This defeat did not only break the armies —
it broke the financial backbone of India.

After Buxar, the Company received Diwani Rights (tax collection) of Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa —
the economic heart of the subcontinent.

From this point, India was not only controlled politically…
but economically captured.

Previously we studied the Part-4 Recap: 1707–1751 — How the East India Company got free access to Indian politics.

The Battle of Plassey in 1757 changed the destiny of India forever.
For the first time, the British East India Company defeated an Indian kingdom — not through courage, not through firepower, but through betrayal from within.

Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah stood alone, while his own
commanders Mir Jafar, Rai Durlabh, Yar Lutuf Khan, and powerful bankers Jagat Seth chose to sell loyalty for wealth and power.

The Company fired only a few bullets,
but the real weapon was deception and greed.

This victory gave the Company control of Bengal, the richest province,
and opened the doors to British political rule in India.
From here, the journey began —
from a trading company to the rulers of India.
