A seminar on “Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan – Drug-Free Society: Role of Youth in Building a Healthy Nation” was organized on 8 August 2026 by the NSS Cell, Social Outreach Cell, and NSS Cell Units I & II of Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, in collaboration with Prajapita Brahma Kumari. The programme aimed to raise awareness among students about the adverse effects of substance abuse and to highlight the vital role of youth in building a healthy, responsible, and addiction-free society.
The second session of the programme was conducted by Prof. Dr. Shankarashis Mukherjee, Professor and Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, West Bengal State University. He commenced the session with an insightful address on the significance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, emphasizing the need for collective awareness and action against substance abuse. He particularly highlighted the responsibility of young people in promoting healthy lifestyles and contributing towards the creation of a drug-free society.
Following his address, Prof. Mukherjee conducted a special class on Research Methodology, specifically designed for the 7th-semester students. The session focused on the fundamentals and significance of research methodology and provided students with valuable academic guidance on adopting systematic, scientific, and methodical approaches to research.
The session proved to be both socially relevant and academically enriching, enabling students to gain greater awareness of the challenges associated with substance abuse while simultaneously strengthening their understanding of research methodology. The programme reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting social responsibility, youth empowerment, academic excellence, and holistic student development.
