অপারেশন কেন ' থিয়েটার' -এ....

যেখানে বা যে ঘরে অস্ত্রোপচার বা সার্জারি অপারেশন হয় তাকে 'অপারেশন থিয়েটার ' বলে। কিন্তু কেন?অপারেশনের সাথে থিয়েটারের কী সম্পর্ক?
প্রশ্নটা সেই ছোট্ট বয়স থেকেই মাথায় ঘুরে বেড়াতো। বড়দের অনেককেই জিজ্ঞাসা করে দেখেছি প্রশ্নটা শুনে তেনারা সব্বাই কেমন যেন হঠাৎ দার্শনিক বনে যেতেন।এরপর আর এগোতে সাহস পাইনি।
ও. টি. বা *'অপারেশন থিয়েটার'* -এর সাথে আমরা সকলেই সুপরিচিত। কিন্তু এই নামকরণ কীভাবে হল? আসুন জেনে নেওয়া যাক্ ...

আসলে আগেকার যুগে অপারেশন রুমগুলো রীতিমতো থিয়েটার বা প্রেক্ষাগৃহের মতো করেই বানানো হতো। বিশেষ কারণেই তা করা হতো। উঁচুতে বড় একটা গ্যালারি থাকত রুমের চারপাশ ঘিরে যেখানে দর্শকরাও থাকতো।অবশ্য দর্শক বলতে প্রধানত শিক্ষার্থী হবু ডাক্তার ও নার্সরা।
এখানে একটি ঐতিহাসিক ছবি দেওয়া হল যেটা বহু বছর আগে তোলা হয়েছে। ছবিটা দেখলেই বোঝা যাচ্ছে যে নিচে একটি অপারেশন হচ্ছে, আর ওপরে ব্যলকনিতে সকল শিক্ষার্থী ছাত্রছাত্রী ও নার্স পর্যবেক্ষণ করছে (থিয়েটারে সিনেমা দেখার মত)। তাই অপারেশন রুমটি অপারেশন থিয়েটার রূপেই অভিহিত হতো ,যা আজও অপারেশন থিয়েটার নামেই পরিচিত।
