মনগড়া পাখি - The compilation of seven imaginary bird songs, came alive as an exhibition at the Bengal Birders' Meet.

The display brought together the story panels created by children from Paschim Banga Kheria Sabar Kalyan Samity —imagining birds that inhabit the real landscapes of Purulia—with illustrations by our educator, Santanu Kar, offering visitors a glimpse into the creative journey behind the songs.

The work emerged in collaboration with Keystone Foundation and Paschim Banga Kheria Sabar Kalyan Samity. Each imaginary bird first took shape as a collaborative story card before finding its voice in songs written by the children in the Sabar language and set to traditional melodies and rhythms.

The exhibition celebrated imagination, storytelling, and the many ways children connect with birds, culture, and the landscapes they call home.

One of the major highlights of Bengal Birders' Meet 2026 was the enthusiastic participation of school children and college students from across Kolkata.

A special thanks to PENTAX for gifting a Papilio binocular to Agastya Chanda, a student of Grade 10 at Calcutta International School, and one of our promising young naturalists.

Despite his young age, Agastya has already led several School of Birds Nature walks, introducing fellow students to the fascinating world of insects and butterflies. The Pentax Papilio, renowned for its unique close-focus capability, is a particularly apt gift that recognises and nurtures his passion for these often-overlooked wonders of nature.

We hope Agastya's journey inspires many more young naturalists to explore, appreciate, and conserve the natural world.

Cheers to PENTAX for this generous and thoughtful gesture, and for encouraging the next generation of birders and naturalists.

The curtain raising Open Day for Jolabhumi Utsav 2026 was magical.

Here's an album from yesterday, a feeble attempt to capture some of the magic that happened.

1 -> Children participate in bird games, identify the Silhouette & match the bird to its habitat.

2 -> A small part of the installations of the various life forms found in the East Kolkata Wetlands.

3 -> Three people actively sketched their observations from the day. This is a quiet moment where a child takes a look at one of the works in progress.

4 -> One of our young participants, tries her hand at painting a tailorbird with natural pigments extracted from the wetlands. This table drew in experts and novices alike.

5 -> Children queue for a traditional meal.

6 -> The Jhumur music team, led by the veteran singer Kalpana Mahato.

7 -> The Jhumur dance team got in on the action inspiring others to join in soon after.

8 -> Some group photos are more special than others. The masters of puppets (top), sing about saving the wetlands to save the ones living within, to end the puppet show. The entire group (bottom), jubilant, radiant and one single unit.
