Today, a workshop on Internet Addiction - A Growing Menace among Students was held by our Psychology Department.
The Internet has become an integral part of our lives, but excessive and compulsive urge regarding computer use creates a psychological dependence leading to tolerance and withdrawal symptoms giving rise to psychological problems. It is lnternet addiction disorder.
The warning signs are poorly controlled computer usage, which acts as a relief from stress, depression, anxiety, loneliness etc, leading to a life of isolation where social interaction diminishes. It also hampers the academics of students who cannot go 10 minutes without their smartphone!
Physical effects include insomnia, neck pain, eyestrain etc.
Psychologically, they suffer from mood swings, fear, inability to prioritise, and have no sense of time.
Remedies to this situation are -
An extensive support system,
Getting involved in hobbies and interests,
Developing reading habit,
Monitoring computer usage,
Parents giving time,
Counselling and therapy,
and Cognitive behavioral therapy.
We hope for a world where the youth will not be enslaved to the screen and lead a happy and healthy life - both physically and psychologically!
THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN - 50 DAYS TO GO!! ❤️💙💛💚
Grandparents brighten our days a little bit more, make the food tastier too, and most importantly, sprinkle the stardust of fantasy over the mundane with their web of fairy tales! With unconditional love and patience they nurture the grandchildren and make their lives beautiful!
This year, Grandparents' Day was on 11th September, and today we had a late celebration in our school to thank them for being there!
Here are a few moments captured from the day's programme, where the children performed, the grandparents rocked the stage with their singing and recitation, and then tried to recapture a slice of their childhood in the game zone arranged for them!
Budge Budge KhushirJhuli is an NGO created with the intention of spreading knowledge and cheer, especially among the slum children living adjacent to Budge Budge station. As our beloved teachers took their precious time out to initiate such a noble activity, on the rain-drenched Saturday of 23rd July, 13 students of the Interact Club, the board members, Anwesha Das, Sriyadita Ghosh, Arjayeeta Pal, Aparajita Bannerjee, Aranyaa Kundu, Anushmita Raksh*t, Sraddha Chakraborty, Bidisha Seth, Aishiki Chatterjee, Medhashree Basu, Adrija Chatterjee, Rajita Das and Debarpita Biswas, had got the pleasant opportunity to visit this very special organization guided and accompanied by 3 teachers Mrs Saha, Ms Ghosh and Mrs Duttagupta. From 19th June to 18th July, the Interact Club of the school collected money, pens, pencils, erasers, compass, protractors, rulers and story books from the students for the NGO. We were able to collect 20,000 rupees, while the Social Service League of the school came forward with a donation of 250 notebooks amounting to 11,250 rupees. The school was happy to provide some technological aid in the form of a desktop computer. We feel honoured having received this noble opportunity and it was truly delightful and blissful to interact with the children there. We spent some time and distributed snacks (bought with the money collected from the students of GMGS). Overall, it was indeed a mesmerizing and gratifying experience and we definitely pledge to have more such days.
For the Khushir Jhuli project by Interact Club of Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School, Rotary Club of New ballygunge was awarded the First Prize for their projects with interact club in the Rotary Award Ceremony year 2021-22. This event was also published in the Rotary GML- August issue.
