IIM Calcutta's MDP on Contract Management and Arbitration intends to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of legal aspects of commercial transactions, with specific focus on contractual issues and commercial dispute resolution. Professor Biju Paul Abraham is a faculty of the Public Policy & Management Group of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He was a Nehru Centenary Fellow at King's College London between 1991 and 1995. His teaching and research interests include International governance issues and assessment of risks affecting firms as a consequence of changes in the socio-political and regulatory environments. He was co-editor of the book Good Governance, Democratic Societies and Globalization published by Sage in 2004 and co-author of the book The Intelligent Person’s Guide to Good Governance published by Sage in 2009.

Dr. Mehul Raithatha’s article titled CSR mandate In India: What we have learned so far? discusses the impact of CSR on firm valuation, profitability, accounting conservatism, tax avoidance, and other firm-level aspects, as found in academic research.

Last weekend students of IIM Calcutta came together to celebrate Makarsankranti in various shades embracing various cultures and their traditions. A sneak-peek into the Makarsankranti celebration at IIM Calcutta.

Professor Partha Ray, Director of the National Institute of Bank Management, Pune, India, was also a Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He served as the Advisor to the Executive Director (India) at the IMF, Washington DC and as Director of the Department of Economic and Policy Research, Reserve Bank of India. He has written extensively on issues relating to monetary policy, banking and finance.

Prof. Rima Mondal’s article titled Enhancing the Efficiency of TDR Markets for Financing Large-scale Infrastructure Projects discusses the use of BCT in the TDR market which can improve the efficiency of land markets in India. TDR as a value capture mechanism has been given due emphasis for financing large-scale infrastructure projects. Given the increasing burden of urbanization, attaining self-sufficiency in financing the development of large-scale infrastructure is the need of the hour.

Anu Flekova (IIMC STEP: 1533/22) and Simran Diwedi (MBA/0166/58), have won two independent BEST TEAM awards at the X-Culture project this year! 13 global virtual teams were listed worldwide as winners out of 1,032 teams, consisting of 6189 students from 140 universities in 43 countries that took part in the competition. Anu’s international business project was on Metacollective (an immersive campus in the Metaverse, MainStreet MC located in Sandbox) and Simran’s on ZenHire (a deep tech company providing revolutionary AI based hiring). Both the projects were guided by Prof. Ramya Venkateswaran as part of the coursework for term 5 MBA elective Strategic Decision Making in International Business. Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan is a 6th-batch PGP alumnus of IIM Calcutta. He is a successful business executive and entrepreneur.
He had started his entrepreneurial venture with Rediffusion, an advertising firm now known as Rediffusion DY&R, which he co-founded with Arun Nanda and Mohammed Khan, when he was only 22. Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan is the founder, current Chairman, and CEO of Rediff.com. He is also a popular writer and has served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta for two successive terms spanning over ten years.

As part of its Building Roadmaps for Industrial Decarbonisation (BRIDGE) Initiative, IIM Calcutta’s Centre for Development and Environment Policy (CDEP) is conducting a Carbon Finance Workshop on 13th January 2023, in L-32 of the New Academic Block. The panelists for the workshop include Dr. Dhruba Purkayastha, India Director, Climate Policy Initiative, Dipak Dasgupta, Distinguished Fellow, TERI, Ekta Mehra, Senior Sector Specialist, KfW Group, Upendra Bhatt, Co-Founder & Managing Director, cKinetics and Vinod Kala, Founder & Director, Emergent Ventures.

Structured as a two-hour moderated discussion amongst experts in various domains of carbon finance, followed by an hour of interaction with attendees, the workshop will be attended by more than 65 students and 15 faculty members of IIM Calcutta.

CDEP aims to release a white paper based on the deliberations of the Workshop. It is hoped that the white paper will feed into the ongoing discussions of Taskforce-4: Refuelling Growth – Clean Energy and Green Transitions under the G-20 India Presidency.
