doodlers™ JAAAGO! Is here to WAKE YOU NOW!
The puja celebration arrives early in town this year with a festival of music and creativity. It wheels through exciting talent hunts, a kalaangan (arts arena) for visual and performing arts training providers, panel discussions with experts, interactive workshops featuring celebs and culminates with a Salim-Suleiman live concert, writes Mohona Bhattacharjee.

While the city is bustling with anxious puja shoppers prepping up to be the coolest pandal hoppers, the tweens have a different plan this year. Samridhhi (13 years) is anxious to get her song right for the Sur Diye Ashur Bodh singing contest, Mumtaz (7 years), on the other hand is eager to know what Hariharan has in store for her at the doodlers™ JAAAGO workshop.

Along with these children, the city too is gearing up to host the first of it’s kind utsav - doodlers™ JAAAGO, a pan India celebration of music and creativity starting at Science City, Kolkata on 11th of October. The experience is created by KarmYog Education Network and is curated by its Founder, a visionary educationist Shri sourabh J. sarkar. The utsav, in the words of sourabh, is a not only a platform for experts, trainers and learners of visual and performing arts but is also an occasion to rekindle universal human values with the help of music, art and creativity. “We need to give the eternal values that make us human a chance to converge with mainstream pursuits of modern society. What can be a better way of doing it if not through a music and creativity ka utsav?” quizzed the Founder.

At the heart of the doodler’s JAAAGO festival is the interactive multimedia workshop produced by Indian Idol Academy. It features a galaxy of maestros and Idol stars and will wake up every participant to the magic of music. It is an hour long musical experience featuring Indian Idol Academy legends such as Hariharan and Salim Merchant. Not just that, at the end of the workshop, the participants will also get a chance to give their digital audition.

During the 2 day utsav at doodlers™ JAAAGO, creative brilliance ranging from singing, creative doodling to any form of visual and performing arts will be showcased at CHAMPistan and Kala-angan. "CHAMPistan unlocks the creative potential of teens and tweens by hosting interesting competitions like “Shoor Diye Oshoor Bodh” and Creative Doodling Champ" says Minu Gurukkal hosting these competitions. On the other hand Kala-angan is an arena for exquisite round the clock performances by visual and performing arts trainers. Madhurita a budding violinist feels that an all-inclusive cultural platform like this is a welcome move as it celebrates the cumulative creative richness of the city. She is excited to participate in the utsav and is expecting an encouraging response for her performance. Like Madhurita, Sampoorna an Odissi dancer from Assam ecpreses that in contrast to the reality shows which are largely based on the format of talent elimination, doodlers™ JAAAGO is about talent celebration.

The utsav is also introducing a creative interaction called the JAAAGO Talk Show- discovering values with sourabh J sarkar where the Founder will engage with various visual and performing arts exponents and demonstrate the presence and significance of values in creativity. Our sources confirm that this JAAAGO experience will be converted into a TV show by a popular channel.

The schools of the city play a pivotal role in the doodlers JAAAGO utsav. “Approximately 70% of the childhood is spent in schools with teachers. So if effective value orientation through creative arts has to start, it has to do so with schools” affirmed sourabh in one of his interviews. In order to address this, the doodlers™ JAAAGO team is organizing a panel discussion with the eminent school principals and educationists during the 2 day utsav itself. Principal of St. Augustine school Mr. Richard Gasper, who is himself an eminent musician and a founding member of one of the first music bands of the city will lead one of the panels and address music teachers from over a hundred schools. “The very idea of a panel discussion with schools appealed to us because that would enable us to have a multidimensional discourse on the significance of visual and performing arts in the holistic development of a child” opined Neha Jain, the chief learning experience designer at KarmYog Education Network.

The 2 day celebration of music and creativity will climax with a grand musical evening with Salim Suleiman live show on 14th of October where the celebs will not only wow the masses with their charismatic performances but will also felicitate the winner of talent hunt competitions personally. Salim, an ardent believer of community singing feels “something like this where people come together, sing together, experience music together is the most powerful celebration of music”. Taking community singing a step further, KarmYog Education Network has come up with the Indian Idol Academy Choir- a group of country’s finest singers, who will perform an innovative musical as part of the Grand show.

With the Pujas hardly 20 days away and the shopping spree threatening at an exploding level, Little Rehman (8 years) adds one last item to his shopping cart- a box of brand new crayons for the doodling competition at doodlers™ JAAAGO.
