Tea Research Association, India ( TRA Tocklai ) has been the trend setter for all scientific research on tea in the world. Be it the wide array of it's planting materials, engineering solutions such as the CTC , Rotorvane and other aspects of R&D, TRA Tocklai has always been the first since 1911. This application is also being developed for the benefit of all who is associated with the tea industry as well as those who like the wonder beverage called tea.

TRA organised an interactive meeting between its members with Tea & Herbal Infusions Europe (THIE) and Bayer | Crop Science to discuss European Union regulations on plant protection issues which will affect Indian tea exports on 2nd May 2024. TRA Tocklai have developed a first 'Make in India' kit for isolating DNA, RNA and Protein from plants. The uniqueness of the kit being: cost effective, rapid protocol, users friendly, import substitution and export potential. The kit is protected by Indian Patent No 534593 granted on 24th April 2024 and supported by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) Govt of India in the form of Biotechnology Ignition Grant.

The technology opens up commercialisation avenues for product development.

HUL joins forces with Tea Research Association to tackle climate challenges in tea sector 15/03/2024

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has announced its partnership with the Tea Research Association (TRA), Tocklai, Jorhat, one of the oldest and largest tea research association globally, to address the challenges posed by climate change to the tea industry. The collaboration targets low carbon production, benefits 15,000 hectares in major tea regions and to promote regenerative agriculture in tea.

The Government of India, Government of Assam, Tea Board of India in association with Tea Research Association (TRA Tocklai) is organising the two day Bi-Centenary Assam Tea International Conference at Guwahati on 29-30 January 2024. Registration are now open at www.batic2024.com

BATIC 2024 is expected to be attended by all segments of the Indian and global tea industry, UN officials, International certifying bodies, startup companies associated with Agritech, diplomats from various tea growing and consuming countries and officials from the Government of India and Assam.

TRA signed another agreement with SMAC Emobility to work on drones and use of renewables for the tea garden areas. With SMAC emobility, TRA will act as Remote Pilot Training Organization to provide remote pilot training licenses for drone operators as required under DGCA.

TRA signed an exclusive MOU with Boomitra to provide soil carbon credits to members of TRA based in 9 Eastern Indian states and to design satellite based advisories to tea estates. Boomitra has won the The Earthshot Prize for 2023 in Singapore for their innovative AI based solutions and long term sustainability.

Tea Research Association (TRA Tocklai) and Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati signed an Memorandum of Understanding on 18th November 2023 at IITG campus to harness the strength of both the institutes for the development of the Indian tea industry. Work on value added tea products, renewable energy, nanotechnology, agro engineering technology and regenerative agriculture are being planned for collaborative research. Nayantara Palchoudhuri, Chairperson TRA and Dr Parameswar Krishnan Iyer, Director IITG signed the MOU in the presence of Joydeep Phukan Secretary TRA, Dr A Babu Director TRA and other senior IITG officials.

The Council of Management of TRA expresses its deep shock at the sudden passing away of Mr Parag Bhai Desai, Executive Director of WaghBakri Tea Group. Mr Desai was one of the most promising 4th generation tea entrepreneur who made huge contributions in introducing different mode of tea marketing. Mr Desai visited TRA Tocklai last May and took keen interest in R&D for tea sector. May God give strength to the family and the departed soul rest in peace πŸ™

The Council of Management expresses its deep condolences at the passing of Mr Arun Khanna ( ex Goodricke group ) on the 25th September at the age of 84 years in Kolkata. He was a former Council member of TRA and a storehouse of knowledge on tea cultivation and practices.

Study to assess carbon footprint of India's tea industry 17/09/2023

The Tea Research Association (TRA) has started a collaborative study to assess the carbon footprint of the tea industry. The study aims to determine the industry's carbon emissions and develop strategies for carbon offsetting. The TRA has formed a committee with the Tea Board of India to evaluate the study's outcomes and formulate policies for achieving net zero goals.
