Durga puja in Kolkata -- often referred as the world’s biggest public art festival -- is a unique event that mixes tradition with trend and faith with fun & frolic and touches the lives of millions of people.

Inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the festival is seen as the best instance of the public performance of religion and art, and as a thriving ground for collaborative artists and designers. The festival is characterized by large-scale installations and pavilions in urban areas, as well as by traditional Bengali drumming and veneration of the goddess.

During the event, the divides of class, religion and ethnicities collapse as crowds of spectators walk around to admire the installations.

Students of the outgoing batch presented a spectacular special assembly to mark the 2nd Anniversary of this Bengali festival, making it to the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Being onstage can be daunting no matter how old you are! The School concert offers children the opportunity to build their courage in front of an audience, a skill that will continue to serve them throughout school and eventually, in the life outside school.

The issue of water stagnating in front of the school gate at 34 Scott Lane, Kolkata 700009 (Church Block Section), after rain showers was a cause of concern for the students, parents, and staff members for quite some time, due to the outbreak of dengue. However, thanks to the Local Councilor, Ms. Monalisa Banerjee and the effective coordination with KMC, the matter has been resolved. The drainage system has been improved by connecting the outlet to the main underground drainage system, ensuring the smooth flow of water and preventing further accumulation.
On behalf of our entire school community, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Local Councilor and KMC for their support and assistance in resolving the issue.

It was heartening to see children of the primary department, both boys and girls, smartly wield scissors, thread needles, cut, stitch, paste, draw and you name it. The result is some amazingly creative socially useful, productive work (SUPW).

“Peaceful protest is more effective when creating real change. Peaceful protest wins over the hearts and minds of the majority. That majority continues to grow. It is like sunlight and water for your garden.”
- Leland Lewis.

The Bengal Christian Council, under the aegis of the National Council of Churches in India, hosted a silent peace rally on 1 September 2023, in solidarity with the people of Manipur

The staff of St. Paul’s Mission School joined this silent protest for we believe that it is important to fight for the things we care about. Wherever we see wrong or inequality or injustice, we have to speak out, because this is our country; this is our democracy. We have to make it, we have to protect it, we have to keep it safe for the next generation.

A good Teacher is the life breath of any educational institution. She not only inspires her students but also instills in them the fire to be change-makers for a better society.

Congratulations Mrs Piyali Chattopadhyay De, senior member of the St. Paul’s Mission School faculty, for receiving the IIHM Teachers’ Day award at a special function organised to recognise the invaluable contribution of sincere and dedicated Teachers to the life of an institution. May you continue to inspire our children, for years to come. We are proud of you!

There is no greater feeling than giving someone else joy. And who knows this better than the students of St. Paul’s Mission School!
Every year, each class organises their own class canteen to raise funds for social service visits to old age homes and orphanages. With the funds collected,, the students carry van loads of rations and other goods to these organisations and personally hand over the fruits of their labour to the residents.
Twice a week, the children also spend time with the students of the CSS school that operate on our premises in the afternoon. They teach, they play, they sing, they dance. They share personal resources with those who are not as privileged as they.
In return, the children harvest the rich joys of learning to care and to share. They also end up making beautiful memories!
Receiving a “Certificate of Honour for Social Service” from ‘The Telegraph’ for all these little acts of selfless love, is thus only an additional confirmation of the fact that we are on the right path!
Being kind to others may not seem like much, but if enough people do it, it can make a huge impact as a whole and even save lives.

On the eve of the 77th Independence Day of the nation, St. Paul’s Mission School put up their Annual Indian Cultural Evening –to celebrate the myriad hues of this great Nation’s cultural heritage and traditions.

The theme for this year’s, Indian cultural evening “in search of peace“, was chosen by the teachers, with the conscious intention to make the students not just aware but also to raise their voices against the widespread religious, political and ethnic violence that ails the country and the world at large, at the present times.
With over 300 student participants showcasing their thoughts and talents through dance, drama and music, it is our belief that the show was both spectacular and educative.

Themes based on religious discord, political and ethnic violence, violation of nature resulting in environmental degradation, cross-border violence among politically demarcated countries, communal crisis, domestic violence and gender disparity, are some of the issues that were highlighted through short skits, songs and dance performances.
The purpose was not only to throw light on the threats and challenges but also to suggest solutions. Restoring peace is the need of the hour..

May the future generation wake up into a sphere of ‘ever-widening thought and action.
