On the 27th of November, 2022, the Techno India SPIE Student Chapter organized a virtual alumni meet, over Google Meet, which created a platform for the present student members of the chapter to interact with the past members. Some of them are currently pursuing their Higher Education in some of the most prestigious institutes in the world and some of them are working at various Multinational Corporations (MNCs). The session was inaugurated by the Director of Techno India Salt Lake, Dr. Avijit Kar, who shared his thoughts with us about the SPIE Student Chapter of Techno India. Following this, the audience was addressed by our Chapter Advisor, Dr. Saikat Majumder. He shared his experiences with the past student members and also gave us insights on how we, the present student members shall plan the activities for the upcoming year and take the student chapter to new heights.
We had one talk scheduled for that day which was delivered by one of the Founding members of our student chapter, Aishik Biswas. Aishik Biswas is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Montana State University under the guidance of Professor Ioannis Roudas. His talk was based on “The Role of Photonics in Communication Technology”. He gave us a brief overview of how the digital communication systems work, the optical fibre technology, the concept of Multiplexing, the Stokes Vector Modulation & the Mode Vector Modulation.
His talk was followed by some questions from the audience. Next, we proceeded toward the interactive session between the alumni and the present students. We were also able to connect to the alumni who are now in USA and Germany, pursuing higher education. They shared their experiences and told us about the benefits that they had gotten from the chapter. The alumni motivated the present students to explore their fields of interest. They even explained to the students how higher education is very important in today’s date.
