οΈ Facts
On 30 April 1999, Jessica Lal was working as a bartender at a private party in Delhi. After the bar closed, Manu Sharma demanded a drink.
When Jessica refused, she was shot dead.
Several eyewitnesses were present, but many later turned hostile during the trial.

οΈ Issues
1. Whether Manu Sharma was the person who shot Jessica Lal.
2. Whether the prosecution had proved the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
3. Whether the Trial Court's acquittal was justified despite the available evidence.

οΈ Judgment
The Trial Court (2006) acquitted Manu Sharma due to insufficient evidence and hostile witnesses.
The Delhi High Court (2006) reversed the acquittal, held Manu Sharma guilty of murder, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The Supreme Court (2010) upheld the conviction and life sentence, affirming that the evidence clearly established Manu Sharma's guilt.

οΈ Ratio: The case reaffirmed that an appellate court can overturn an acquittal when the Trial Court has improperly appreciated evidence and a miscarriage of justice would otherwise result. βοΈ
