11/4 Sarat Bose Road may sound to be just another address on the busy Lansdown Road, now called Sarat Bose Road, but the quaint old building at this address houses an institution which has been training the minds of young people for long 75 years. It is a treasure house of a wonderful learning experience, if one cares to walk down its memory lane. While adhering to some time tested academic axioms
, it has imbibed the new methodology and technology in its stride. She is still sprity as a three year old and ready to go on with great enthusiasm. Starting as a preparatory school for young children by Miss. Beryl Hartley and groomed into a high school by Mrs. Phyllis Hartley, the school which bears their names, stands out as a premier educational institution in Kolkata. Our present Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Maitreyi Das took the school one step ahead and introduced Higher Secondary Classes in August 2009. The school was given the permission to start all the three sections viz. Arts, Science and Commerce. She also introduced Computer Application/Computer Science as Additional Subject for the Madhyamik as well as for H.S. section. In November 2009, the present Management Hartley Higher Educational Trust, took charge of the school. Under the new Chairman, Shri Govind Garg the school is undergoing a change for the better.
