Every December, during winter vacation, Soma's Camps conducts Adventure Camp for all age groups, and especially for children. We try to share with our participants, our knowledge of the wilderness, some important life skills, nature study, climbing skills and wilderness survival skills, packed neatly in a gift-wrap of fun and excitement.

15 year old Rai, for whom it was her first solo travel, our Adventure Camp last year, wrote this beautiful piece for a Melbourne based Travel blog. Her post got published on 25th April and we thought of sharing the link, for those who would like to read the experiences of a 15 yr old urban teenager who left her cushioned city- life and spent 4 days in the wilderness of Purulia with a bunch of strangers, and her take-away from the event.

Our Silent Valley trek got over on 15th April. Made a short video for those who would like to watch. I typically do this trek in April when it is Spring time in the hills. The streams are a bit thin but trails are covered with flowers. We saw Azaleas, Wild strawberry flowers, potato flowers, rhododendrons, Primulas, Arum lilies, dandelions, greater periwinkles, lots of erigerons (sp), Viola rivinianas, Gentiana Pedicellatas and many more. We saw a lot of birds and a few species of butterflies too. Not spamming you with the names. But it was wonderful watching them, photographing them and identifying them. After all a trek should not be limited to walking and blaring out music from boxes as we saw some other trekkers doing. This batch was close to my heart as, of all the first timers, I had a 70 year old lady participant in the team. Her first trek. Her first solo journey ever. Guiding her, explaining her how to walk in the hills and how to breathe during walking was a job I took up happily and am convinced that I did it well. A gentleman, who I had walked with, in Phalut trek, 8 years back, had sent his 15 yr old son, all the way from Hyderabad to join us in this trek. It was the kid's first trek. First solo trip. Thank you Tathagato Roychoudhury to choose me as your son's first trek care taker. It was a pleasure having him in the team.
