*****on_place_of_India_by_East_India_Company
(Held on 1758-1759)
pond was made by the last Nabab of WestBengal ;'NababSirajuddoullah was the last nabab, who made a very big pond on 1756,when he attracted the East India Company at kolkata. Lord Clive was the head of the company. Lord Clive defeted and flee to Chennai ( then Madras).**
Siraj Uddoulah kept his elephants and the horses here, 23rd km from Kolkata. He was diging the pond to drink water and take a bath of his eliphants, so it is called "Hathipukur" in Bengali .
Hathi means elephant, pukur means pond.**
It is a historical place also because the first ex*****on of India was held here on 1758 -59 of Mahara 'Nanda Kumar. He was hanged by the ruler here. The tree is still live ,( but I couldn't take pic on account of heavy rain).**
The pond was named by nabab as 'Siraj Udyan ' a few year ago,and now it is called 'Shibaji Udyan' although it is famous as 'hathipukur.**
For environmental crisis the pond is being too small but I saw it first time on 1975 ,often 52 years ago when it was very expanded.**
A small town is famous for 'Titumir' the first fighter against ' neel chash'( nil cultivation). He faught against the East India Company and made a fourt of bamboo near the pond. That is famous in Bengali as' Bansher kella"'.*ππ½ππ½
