Recipe 1 – Chocolate Sponge Cake
Ingredients:
Dry:
All-purpose flour – 1 cup
Granulated white sugar – 1 cup
Cocoa powder – 1/3 cup
Baking powder – ¾ tsp
Baking soda- ¾ tsp
Salt – 1/8 tsp
Wet:
Warm water – ½ cup
Vanilla essence – ¾ tsp
Vegetable oil – ¼ cup
Milk – ¼ cup
Time: 30 minutes
Preparation: 10 minutes
Baking: 18-20 minutes
Method:
In a sieve, take all-purpose flour and cocoa powder and sift them together into a bowl. Then add baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix well.
Take another bowl and put granulated white sugar in it. Add warm water, milk, vegetable oil and finally add vanilla essence. Mix with a wire whisk until all ingredients are mixed properly.
Now, make a well in the dry ingredients bowl and add the wet ingredients to it little by little. Mix all the ingredients well in cut and fold method. The consistency of the batter should be thin and not sticky/thick.
Take a cake mould and grease it first with butter and then with flour. Pour the batter into the mould and tap it 2-3 times on the slab. Place it into a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
