Skill India Drive Boosts BFSI Sector
With an aim to develop India’s unskilled and semi-skilled labour pool into a productive and skilled workforce, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), an executive arm of the
Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, has collaborated with Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL).

As part of this collaboration, DHFL has offered to provide its state-of-art-centre in Mumbai for conducting skill development trainings in Banking and Financial Services especially for unprivileged youth in below-poverty-line category as part of the company’s nationwide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. NSDC’s affiliated training partners will conduct trainings and lead the successful implementation of the project. This association aims to bridge the need of aspirants who are deprived of opportunities due to financial constraints and those who are unable to access ‘new economy’ jobs.

Embarking on an ambitious mission to empower Indian youth with skill training and employability, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE)today hosted the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2017 marking the completion of three glorious years of its inception today. The awards were conferred in the august presence of Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Ambassador of Japan to India Shri Kenji Hiramatsu, Secretary MSDE Dr K.P Krishnan and Managing Director & CEO, ICICI Bank Ltd Ms Chanda Kochhar.

Congratulating all the entrepreneurs recognized by MSDE this year and highlighting the challenges of limited job creation capacity, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Shri Arun Jaitley said, “India has a much younger population versus other advance economies. This is a huge opportunity for us to scale up and skill our workforce and reap our demographic dividend and service economies. Conventionally our focus was on awarding degrees with always a debate on how we link them to jobs. Over a period of time we have realised that we need to skill our youth for these jobs.”

Skill India and World Bank organize a ‘Knowledge Sharing Workshop’ for African delegates

Taking strong partnership between India and Africa to new heights, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and World Bank are organizing a five day ‘Knowledge Sharing Workshop’ for African delegation from six African countries namely Rwanda, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, Tanzania, and Ghana. Capacity building and knowledge exchange support from India for African countries is the central theme of the workshop. The five day workshop is a culmination of a conference on Partnership for Skills in the Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET) organized in April this year in Nairobi, Kenya.
The African countries that participated in the PASET Forum requested for support and knowledge exchange for African countries with India in the area of skills development (SD) and vocational education. The workshop includes discussions with Indian counterparts at the national level and field visits to two states, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
The workshop is being attended by key ministers from India and Africa namely, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship; Hon’ble Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Minister of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)/Secondary Education, Government of Ghana; Hon’ble Professor Mary Teuw Niane, Minister of Higher Education and Research, Republic of Senegal; Hon’ble Mr. Olivier Rwamukwaya, Minister of State, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Government of Rwanda; Hon’ble H.E. Cabinet approves gas exchange pact with Japan

In an effort to boost national productivity, the Union Cabinet announced on Wednesday that it would send a lakh youth to Japan as part of a bilateral technical training programme.

Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said after a Cabinet meeting that Indian recruits will receive training in Japan for a period of three to five years. They will get accommodation and job opportunities in Japan.

The exchange mission is organized by Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship and World Bank.

"We are working towards further enhancing co-operation in fields of energy, skill development with all African countries. As Prime Minister keeps reiterating- this century belongs to India and Africa, future is ours to build," Pradhan said at the inaugural ceremony of the five-day programme.

While asserting that both the countries have potential of solving the problem of global skilled manpower shortage Pradhan said, "Both India and Africa have huge demographic advantage with two-third of our population below the age of 35," said.

Modi inaugurates institute for skill development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of activist Nana Deshmukh.

Modi inaugurated 11 such institutes across the country in an online address and one of them was in Morna Block, Muzaffarnagar. The institutes aim to expand opportunities for the village youth, who migrate to cities in search of jobs. In his address, Modi said his target was to develop the lives of people in the countryside.

The institutes will train youths in animal farming, pickle production and also computers. Speaking at the programme, district magistrate Anikt Kumar Agarwal said, “This institute will provide all kinds of training for skill developments. It will also provide campus placements. Besides, loans will also be provided to those who want to set up businesses.”

Cabinet approves India-Belarus MoU for Skill development

he Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between India and Belarus for cooperation in the areas of vocational education and skill development that was signed earlier, recently got the approval by the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is the first time that a MOU has been signed with a Eurasian country in this field. The memorandum was signed on 12th September, 2017 during the visit of President of Belarus, Mr. Alexander Lukashenko to India.

According to the agreement Belarus will provide vocational educational and advisory services in the areas of manufacturing, construction,electric power production,transport and also internships for vocational education and training managers.

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Katsunobu Kato, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, sign the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan on Technical Intern Training Programme, in Tokyo.

In what is a boost for skill development and technical training , India and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for a Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP).

On October 17, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan signed the MoC on behalf of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the government of India with Katsunobu Kato, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan at the Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare in Tokyo, Japan.

The MoC on TITP is expected to significantly expand the bilateral cooperation between India and Japan in the field of skill development. India is the third country with which Japan has signed the MoC as per the requirements of the Technical Intern Training Act scheduled to come into force in November 2017.

In the bilateral joint statement issued during the visit of Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to India in September 2017, the two prime ministers expressed confidence that synergy between Japan’s advanced technology and India’s rich human resources can transform both countries into new centres of production in the global industrial network. In this regard, they underscored the potential to further cooperate in human resources development and exchanges utilising such frameworks as Japan’s Technical Intern Training Program (TITP).

The ministers also laid the foundation for a Skill Development Centre at Moti Bagh and a Centre of Excellence at Dharam Marg, New Delhi.

Affirming synergies with the Government of India's flagship programs, the new skill development centres underscore the commitment of the Ministry of Urban Affairs & Housing (MUHA) and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to support skilling in smart cities. Govt plans national policy for social security cover, skill development

The government is planning to formulate a national policy for domestic workers with an aim to expand the scope of applicable legislation, policies and schemes such as minimum wages, social security and skill development programmes. The ministry has invited views of all stakeholders and general comments on the National Policy for Domestic Workers till November 16, according to a notice by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The new policy proposes to clearly define part-time workers, full-time workers, live in workers and employers and private placement agencies.

India-Japan sign 15 MoUs, to collaborate in Skill Development-Investments

Sept 15 (KNN) Following the arrival of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in India, the two countries signed over 15 Memorandum of Understandings focussing on different sectors including skill development as well as fresh investment opportunities between the two countries.

With reference to the MoUs signed under the economic and commercial sector, the countries agreed upon implementing the commercial arrangement of "Cool EMS" service between the Japan Post and India Post through which fresh food can be sent from Japan to India in cool boxes to facilitate for the Japanese expatriates in India.

Also an MoU was signed aiming at investments in the country, especially for the state of Gujarat.

Under the collaboration, India-Japan will work closely on an Investment Promotion Road map between DIPP and METI to facilitate and accelerate the Japanese investments in the country.

Also an MOC was inked between METI and the State of Gujarat on 'Japan-India special programme for Make In India' in Mandal Bechraj-Khoraj in Gujarat.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Petroleum and Natural Gas on Friday underlined the importance of the critical issue of skill development in India. He emphasised the development of an ecosystem in the country in which people think that the work they are doing is helping in improving their skills and creating jobs for others as well. While speaking at the 10th Global Skills Summit in New Delhi organised by industry chamber FICCI, Pradhan also said that India cannot ignore the challenges of new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. The country has to accept the challenges of industrial revolution 4.0, the minister added. “We must be prepared and should not miss the industrial revolution this time,” he said.

The government feels that real estate developers need to tap the workforce at its origin and train them there before using them to their benefit. Speaking at the 14th National convention of NAREDCO Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India said” Real estate sector needs a lot of skilled workforces. But there is not enough emphasis on skills training. In fact, real estate sector needs to create facilities for skill training but for this to be effective these facilities need to be created at the places where the places from where the workforce originates that is in the rural areas of the country from where they come. This would help the sector in the longer run.”

Taking a cue from Mr. Rudy’s remarks NAREDCO said they have their own plans to set up training facilities in various parts of India and these centers would be operational soon.

Nearly 31 lakh people trained under PMKVY: Rajiv Pratap Rudy
The government today said a total of 30.68 lakh candidates trained or were undergoing training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in the country as on July 6 this year.

Out of them, 1.47 lakh candidates were from Delhi while 2.46 lakh from Rajasthan, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

The ministry is implementing this scheme which enables a large number of youth to take up skill training for securing job, he said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
