Now that the squads have been sold, it's time for one of the most intense and exciting parts of DPL, the debater auctions! Every squad must get their A game on and strategise well to make sure they don't lose out to their competitors. Be there in the Third Year classrooms on Tuesday at 1:30 pm to watch squads battle over debaters (maybe, even you!) and build the ultimate team to win DPL 2016!

Meet your core!

#2. For someone who's debated as little as Akshaya Venkataraman has, her track record in incredible. To give you an idea of her adjudication skills, she has been in the top 5 every time she's adjed at the NUJS PD (and she has adjed it all four years that she's been in college), has been 2nd best adj as Derozio, 2015 and 3rd best adj at Derozio 2016. She was Semi Finalist at IIT Guwahati in 2014 (she insists on adding that it was an internal NUJS tournament, but we think that makes it better :P). She has extremely encouraging as a judge in the moot internals and has spent the not-debating time winning the Asia Pacific rounds of ELSA and FDI, where she was also Best Speaker in the Finals. More importantly, however, she's a realllllyyyyy nice person who is super approachable and quite the pro at tackling conflicts. She's also in charge of Equity at the Debating Premier League, something she says she will handle by virtue of all the icons being her buddies.

We love Akshaya and know you will too!

After phenomenal squad auctions, it's time to gear up for debater auctions, scheduled to happen in the next week. In the meantime, meet your core for DPL, 2016!

#1. Suchisubhra Sarkar
Unassuming but assertive, LDS Convenor Suchisubra (aka Suchi/SuchPuch) is the golden girl of GenNex of NUJS debating. Through sheer hard work, diligence combined with swathes of talent,Suchi has managed to break at every tournament she has been to and reach heights that individuals of her age only dream to achieve. She has made Finals at BITS GOA 2015, IITKGP 2016 and SRDF 2016, won Prologue '15, 16, Heritage '16, reached Semis at IWDC'15 (in her very first year), quarters at Derozio Memorial Debate'16, Malhar '15 and octas at NLS'16 and was best adj (along with Kumar) at NUJS'16. But lets not get carried away with her achievements or her versatile, well thought out speeches or even by her eloquent feedback. Suchi's most crucial contribution to debating at NUJS has been her sheer love of all facets of the activity. From prep time to debate reading to organizing internals, Suchi gives it 100% and a little more to ensure that everything is just right. She has also taken on the noble task of reducing democratic deficits and related exclusion at all levels of debating at University. As long as we can ensure that the classrooms are free of lizards, Suchi is the ideal person to be Core Adjudicator of DPL'16. Her seniors agree, her juniors agree, her opponents agree and her team-mates agree. And we'll have you agreeing in no time too!

#6: Mumbai Squad!

Writing about Ira is so hard, not because there is so much to write, but because there is so much more that cannot be articulated in words. When she's not winning international moots, publishing and presenting papers or eating at Blue Poppy, Ira can be found delivering some of the most impassioned reply speeches, or adjing and guiding juniors in a way that is so unique to her. Perhaps this is what makes her such a phenomenal debater - her ability to take any case and make it her own. Through the course of several, tough debates, Ira has displayed a penchant for nuanced understanding of social complexities and realities.

Ira's phenomenal list of achievements include winning IIT KGP 2016, NLU D 2014 and NLS D 2016; reaching finals at SRDF 2016 Malhar 2015, NALSAR 2015, quarters at Shanti Narayan 2016, Derozio 2015, among far too many others. She has consistently been in the top 10 speakers at the tournaments she has been a part of and has also cored at DMD 2016, NLUO 2016 and CBS 2016. She is also adjudicator elect at NALSAR IV 2016, and IIT Bombay 2016.

Presenting to you, defending champion, Ira Chadha-Sridhar!

#5. Chennai Squad!

Sanchith Shivakumar started law school with what many freshers only dream of - of being rank 1 in the very first debating internals he was a part of! From being known for the sheer amount of knowledge he possesses, to being able to use raw logic and reasoning to break down the most complex of concepts into the most simple ideas, he has awed everyone at NUJS and elsewhere with the clarity he brings about into any debate through his speeches. By far the most experienced debater around owing to the INSANE number of speeches he has given in his life, he is also the smoothest and clearest speaker in NUJS, keeping his audience gripped throughout the seven minutes of his speech.
Contrary to popular knowledge of his condescension towards those who do not match his intellectual calibre, he is one of the friendliest and most approachable persons around for purposes of receiving constructive feedback about everything from case to style of speaking. Having started debating since his school days and having represented India at the World School Debating Championships held in Doha, Qatar, he has continued showing off his prowess in a host of tournaments, only a few of which have been listed below;
1) Ranked ESL 8th best speaker in the world at WSDC, Dundee, 2011.
2) Finalist and Third Best speaker at the NALSAR IV Debate, 2013.
3) Champion of the KIIT Debate, 2016.
4) Champion, and Best Speaker at the IIT KGP Debate, 2016.
5) Finalist at the Gujarat National Law University Parliamentary Debate, 2013.
6) Second Best Speaker, Mukherjee Memorial Debate, 2015.
8) Deputy Core Adjudicator at the NUJS PD – 2015 and 2016.

All in all, one must be really crazy to not buy the Chennai squad, and consequently all that Sanchith brings with him!
See you this evening at 7 pm, in the Fourth Year Classroom.
