A video is recently going viral where a Class 10 student of Auxiliam Convent School, Siliguri, Dibyendu Pramanik, has scored 499 out of 500 in the ICSE Class 10 Board exam and achieved the All India Rank of Two. The mother of the student, Bani Pramanik Sharma, who herself is a school teacher, shared a mixed reaction of pride and disappointment over her son missing one mark to achieve the perfect score.

She says, "I am sad... It would have been better if he had scored one more mark. If he had studied a bit harder, then maybe we would not have been sad missing out on that one mark”.

“Just society is that society in which ascending sense of reverence and descending sense of contempt is dissolved into the creation of a compassionate society..”

“Our technical civilization has just reached its greatest level of savagery. We will have to choose, in the more or less near future, between collective su***de and the intelligent use of our scientific conquests...”

I ran into her at a Pantaloons store several months back. She was on a vacay back home, and she was to leave for the States the very next day. She was just as effusive to see me... She insisted on taking me home, which was a stone's throw away, for a cup of coffee, but unfortunately I had to attend to some task scheduled in advance ....

Eva Biswas.. one of my former students who have made me immensely proud with the kind of achievements they have secured for themselves. Once I taught her for several years, to be exact, over seven long years. Presently, she is pursuing a post doctoral programme in statistics in a leading US university, after a short stint with the Goldman Sachs. Wish she continues to make great strides just as ever! And in retrospect, I feel it's for students like her that my journey has been just as rewarding as it could be.

Deeply mourn the passing of this colossus of a historian. He will be sorely missed in such times as India is now passing through. 😢
Take a bow, sir. Rest in power!

The USA just "liberated" 60+ young girls from the "misery" of living under Khamenei by bombing a girls' school in Iran.

Isn't that "liberating"?

Some kings lose their kingdoms.
Lear lost his judgment.
He divides his empire between his daughters, demanding that they prove their love in words.
Two flatter him.
One tells the truth.
He banishes the honest one.
That is where the tragedy begins.
King Lear is not about power alone.
It is about blindness of the heart.
Lear mistakes praise for loyalty.
He confuses noise with love.
When betrayal finally becomes visible, it is too late.
He loses his throne.
He loses his sanity.
He loses the daughter who truly loved him.
And in the storm, stripped of crown and certainty, he realizes:
Authority does not guarantee wisdom.

Some monsters are not born.
They are encouraged.
Macbeth was not evil at the beginning.
He was brave. Loyal. Honored.
But ambition whispered.
And he listened.
A prophecy plants a seed.
A wife questions his courage.
A crown becomes visible.
What follows is not destiny — it is choice.
Macbeth is not about witches. It is about temptation. About how quickly morality bends when power feels close enough to touch. Blood does not appear all at once. It accumulates. And with every act meant to secure the throne, Macbeth becomes less secure in himself.
The tragedy is not that he wanted greatness.
The tragedy is that he mistook power for it.
By the end, he has the crown.
And nothing else.

Some enemies attack from the front.
The most dangerous ones stand beside you.
Caesar was powerful.
He was admired.
He was feared.
But he did not fear his friends.
Brutus does not kill Caesar out of hatred.
He kills him out of conviction.
And that is what makes it worse.
Julius Caesar is not about ambition alone.
It is about trust.
The dagger is sharp.
But the betrayal is sharper.
When Caesar sees Brutus among the conspirators, he stops resisting.
Because power can survive enemies.
It cannot survive betrayal.
